screen saver issue when watching movies?

hi

the issue i have is when watching a movie every (set period) so often my screen saver kicks in or display turns off after period of inactivity
i can turn screen saver off while watchin then on again after but this is a chore and i often forget
or i can wiggle mouse every few mins to prevent.

however i would like to know if there is a way around this so as i can have screen saver and display time out activated but set to recognise when im watching a movie full screen and not affect (interruppt) the movie

is this possible?

any info on this would be much appreciated
many thanks

No. The screensaver utility can't know if you're watching a movie.

If you watch movies frequently, then make a shortcut to the screensaver console so it's quick and easy to open the settings to enable/disable it (that way it won't feel so much like a "chore" to do). That's probably the easiest thing to do. Alternatively, you could just get into the habit of periodically moving your mouse while you're watching a movie so that the screensaver countdown resets.

Some of the programs used to play movies have the ability to supress the screensaver; check for that setting in preferences. Media player does.

^ Good point, townsbg. I hardly use Media Player due to its limited capabilities, so I wasn't aware of this settings option. Unfortunately VLC media player doesn't have this option. I'm going to send them a product request, as there should be an API call for this seeing how Media Player can provide the option.

thanks guys i too use media player so ill take your word that it does not have it.. i do at the moment giggle the mouse but if i forget as i often do when watching (engrossed) in a good film it goes to screen saver or blank wich is annoying obviously as is constantly having to giggle the mouse. i have found a program that does this for you Mouse Jiggler | PCWorld
but its not ideal much better if vlc provided it within the settings (full screen detection etc) as some av do. my norton prevents tasks when in full screen etc

thanks for suggestions etc hope to see a vlc update soon :)

thanks

Wait Billy, you seem to have misread the postings. You started out saying media player "does not have it"... but it does. Townsbg showed an image of the selector in Media Player that controls sensitivity to the screen saver. But in any case, the "mouse jiggler" will do the trick for other players without a screen saver control option.
