When I try to start my computer it just stays on black screen that says Windows configuration with the status bar. I tried to use system restore but it informs no system restore points. I lost all of the disks and don't know anyone to borrow these from for reinstall.

Any suggestions?

Welcome
If you give us the make and model of your computer, we may be able to use the restoration partition.

Try booting the computer and during boot hit f10 many times quickly.
If that does not work try the same with f11.
Your stuff will be lost.

I am trying to find what is known as the restoration partition. It is suppose to bring your computer back the way it was the day your bought it. The information is in your computer manual, if you can find it.
If you cannot find it, post and we will try something else, but this is the easiest way.

This is my mom's computer. She doesn't have the manual.
F8 shows these options:
Safe Mode (with networking & command prompt), enable boot logging, last know good configuration, directory services restore mode, debugging mode, disable automatic restart on system, disable driver signature enforcement, and start windows normally

OK, then Plan B. Burn a CD using this ISO. You will need a key number to activate, but, this should work.

I was able to do this successfully, however, I don't have any drivers to install? I'm not sure if I have to even do it (if so, do I find them manually and download)?

Under device manager, the following items have the yellow exclamation next to them...i'm assuming these are the drivers needed to be installed. How do i do that if can't connect to internet?
  • Display Adapters - Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (when I click on driver details it says that this is up to date and installed)
  • Other Devices - Network Controller, unknown device, and video controller (driver details states "windows was unable to install...could not find driver software for device)
I can't connect to network though to get on internet and it's not detecting a wireless network.

Using another computer, save the drivers to a finger (USB drive), then plug it into your computer.

I am able to connect to internet now and was able to find all drivers but one
  • Other Devices - Video controller (tried to look for it online and can't find it)?
I found this on compaq site (not sure if I can post in here). Do you think this is the driver?
Driver - Graphics (‏1)

Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Video/Graphics Driver ►2007-11-26 , Version:7.14.10.1318 A, 15.19MThis package contains the video/graphics driver and user interface for the Intel 965 Express Chipset in the supported notebook models and operating systems

fyi---Everything works on the computer, except, when she tried to open Facebook she gets and error message that just simply says cannot open facebook (haven't tried all sites yet but this is 1st error we received). I was thinking this is because the above driver is missing.

Did you try to update from the device manager?
Bring up manager, go to driver, there is a tab to update.

Make a system restore point now and then uninstall the problem drivers. Turn off the computer and wait 60 seconds then boot.
