Solved Calendar reminders

Hi,
If I open Windows Calendar it will display reminders. However, these reminders were not displayed at the specified time before the appointment due date. I have no idea what is causing the problem. The reminders used to work. Can I reinstall windows Calendar? I have the original installation disk. I do not want to reinstall the entire system.
If I can't reinstall, I'll put the Calendar in task scheduler to run upon boot or once a day. Then I wont miss any more reminders.
I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP2
Thanks

I've never used it. In File\Options, is it set to provide reminders when WC isn't running? What is the duration of the default reminder?

Is it possible to do a system restore to before this problem started occurring?

Thanks for the reply wither 3,
As I understand it, the Windows Calendar is controlled through Task Scheduler, It is launched based upon the reminder dates that the user specifies. For me this doesn't seem to be working correctly. I just created my own instance of Calendar in Task Scheduler. It will launch at 8;00 AM each day. So I will at least see that days appointments. I will continue to look for a permanent solution.

My attempt to set up my own execution of WinCal.exe in the Task Scheduler failed. The program would not open with the /reminder option. Without it, it would open (I saw it it Task manager) but it would not display the screen.
I tried to follow these steps:
Help with Windows Calendar - Microsoft Community
and ended up losing the necessary settings in Task Scheduler. I remembered the basic settings for Windows Calendar so I put them back. I have not recovered the reminder settings that were in Task Scheduler Local.
There seem to be a lot of folks who have a similar problem with reminders. I may try uninstall and reinstall Windows Calendar if I can find the source of the program on the Drivers and Utilities disk or find a safe download source. Any advice on this approach?
Thanks

Hi,
I have finally resolved my problem of not getting Windows Calendar reminders via task Scheduler.
I did get them if I opened Calendar.

First, I tried the process outlined here:

Help with Windows Calendar by Mary K on April 19, 2010
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_programs/help-with-windows-
calendar/cbbde5e9-647b-464c-ac82-f265b04c1c0e

It did remove the Task Scheduler (local) and Task Scheduler Library calendar entries but unfortunately these entries were not
recreated when I opened Windows Calendar. However, I do think this is a necessary step .

I decided to recreate both the (Local and Library) Task Schedule entries manually.
At the Action step where you browse for the executable, the path for WinCal.exe is put in quotes because it has embedded
blanks. There was a report of Task Scheduler having a parsing problem if the path was in quotes.

A scheduled task does not run as expected if a command-line argument is enclosed in quotation marks on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista SP1
Although this was not reported as a problem in Vista. I checked my wife's computer where calendar was working and her path
to the program was not in quotes. Simply removing the quotes did not work, it resulted in an incorrect path.

The solution was to put the
WinCal.exe
on the program/script line,

put the path with no quotes:
C:\Program files\Windows Calendar\
on the Start in (optional) line and

put the argument
/reminder
on the Add arguments (optional) line

I also set the trigger for both the Reminder and Calendar Tasks to be at logon, Repeat task every five minutes indefinitely
I will probably change this to one hour in the near future, If anyone needs more detail, let me know and I can post screen shots

for the Reminder task in the local library and the WindowsCalendar task in the Task Scheduler Library
I hope my experience may help others that have this problem.
Regards
Frank C
