Why is not a good idea to store files inside c:\windows folder?

Usually, it's best to keep your files in either your user folders or another drive location. This is because of permission issues that could arise since C:\Windows is a restricted system folder, and your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder or other location isn't.

If the OS system craps out and you need to reformat the C: partition, you would lose all your personal files. Of course, if they are backed up somewhere else, that wouldn't be an issue. I set all my major software to save files to a separate partition. I do back those up to a different hard drive.
