Solved Help, I've lost my Documents folder

I hope someone can help. My situation, I am running out of space on my C drive, so I decided to change the location of Documents to my F: drive which is a larger hardrive I have installed. All was going well, and everything was moving, but then my laptop crashed with 3 items left to move!!!

At that point I could still see my original Documents folder and the F: drive with a copy of the documents folders. So I thought I'd try again and I deleted everything off F: and rebooted.

Wrong move....

Now my documents folder is F: with nothing on it, and I can't see C:/Users/Myname/Documents anymore!!!

After my initial panic, I realise it is still there. In cmd, I can access the directory using cd, and all my directories in C:/Users/Myname/Documents are still there. But I can't see or access them in Windows explorer.

Things I have tried;

- Change location of documents folder back from F: - no go, it says "Falied to build the list of regular subfolders under F:\System Volume Information" Access is denied".

- Been into the registry and tried to change the location of personal back to C:/Users/Myname/Documents - doesn't seem to have worked.

So I am getting desperate. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance...

I think this is slightly more complicated than recovering files. The folders are there - I can access them in cmd, and the is valid access to c:/Users/Myname/Documents/All My Folders. But for some reason Explorer is not showing them.

The fact that my laptop crashed before the move had completed has really stuffed things up. Where my Documents folder should be, is now a folder called F:/, if I try to move F: back to original place it comes up with the error above. And I have tried to restore windows but no joy.

Brink always give very good advice, you may want to read the tutorial that he suggests and give that a try.

Ah, the found the solution!!! I changed the location of the documents folder (called F:) back to default, but this time said "no" to copying the files. And bingo, my document folder is back as are all of my files! Phew, panic over, thanks for your help.
