Problem: Photo Gallery Can't Open This Picture Or Video Help

Hi all, so recently I took some pictures on my phone, some of which will open but many of which won't (Probably due to a problem with its SD card). I have loaded them onto my computer and have tried opening them with various programs (including some downloaded ones which should open most formats), all of which won't load half (it’s always the same photo's which won’t load). All the files are of various normal sized files when checking the properties (they aren’t all 0mg indicating that it has saved the image and it is there). All the files are JPEG format and I have tried renaming some to end in .jpg but that did not help. I have also tried various photo recovery software but none seem to be able to detect the image files as even being there.

If anyone has had this problem before or can think of a way to get them to open or help in any way that would be really great please, Thanks.

Do they open correctly on the phone itself?

What phone are you using? Blackberry devices encrypt certain files therefore a simple copy and paste will not work even if you change the file extension.

It could be possible for the pictures to be corrupted :(

The pictures will not open on my phone (Galaxy S2) and were being saved to a SD card which i suspect has problems (however when i took the pictures it never warned me there was a problem). the photos which open on my phone which were taken at the same time as the ones which wont will open on my computer too. Yeah, as i said i have tried a few photo recovery programs but they so far cant even detect that the files are images despite the propertys giving all the usual info (file type, date taken , file size ect)

Does it happen to all pictures or is it just the recent ones?

If you cannot view them on your phone (Original picture that is) then recovery of them is slim :(

Why do you suspect there is something wrong with the SD card?

I suspect a problem with the SD card as ive since switched so it saves it back to the phone adn have had no problems, but when i tell it to save to the SD card around half the photo's i take wont be viewable (it's not just the most recent its random chunks here and there). Yeah i was hoping there would be a way to recover them tho as the entire file apears to be there and the phone didnt warn me of a problem when saving them tho :s

Sounds like a bad SD card :( The phone won't tell you because it thinks the card is fine from its point of view however the physical writing of data causes issue.

I can't do anything apart from suggest another SD card and if a file is corrupt then it is corrupt there is no saving it :(

There are some very expensive recovery programs as well as services however none are guaranteed to work. :(
