Solved question about restore points.

if I created a restore point, then accidentally deleted word and excel files in my users documents folder, would a system restore bring those files back?

No
System restore does not affect personal documents, only essential parts of the OS.
Why not download, Karens Replicator and copy all your personal documents, so they cannot be lost.

Best to put the copies on an external hard drive for extra safety.

did a job yesterday for a client. removed virus and spyware using spybot and malwarebytes, then used ccleaner to clean up stuff.... he gets the pc home later and tells me his internet wont work, email wont work and his excel files are gone. Ive done this for a few years with no problems, he's a new user and im pretty sure the files are there (he just cant find them, weird because I never messed with or moved them)... pretty sure its a simple fix, but I'm stressing hoping I did not lose his files. LOL. next time im backing up personal files first just in case. :)

By design System Restore does not effect user documents. Imagine what it would be like if it did:

It is Friday and your computer has a serious problem and you choose to use a restore point created on Monday. All seems well, until you notice that all of your documents have reverted to their state on Monday. All of your work done that week, gone.
