Line spacing / pitch / interspace in WindowsVista / Win7

Hi,
Happy new Year  for introduction,

a few days remaining for XP's support and thus I had to do a transfer to win7.

Two things drive me crazy:
1/ the "foggy" fonts, but after 3 weeks I found the solution, simply, great, thanks
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106279-fonts-change-default.html

2/ The remaining headache is line spacing within elements like combo box, menu list...
The simpliest way is to show the difference with one screen shot:
XPvsWIN7.JPG
How can I get the same (compact) layout with win7?

ps: There is the same amount of bookmarks in both lists

Thanks in advance,
pd

The first question has to be whether you've optimised the resolution, and then whether you've also optimised the setup using cleartype options or not?
Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display
CLick on 'Adjust Clear Type text' and follow the instructions.
Only then is it worth fiddling with other settings

Hi, thanks, this setting option I know and I've tried it also - not usable for me - cleartype is switched OFF

The Monitor ist HP LP1965 with Resolution 1280x1024 - 60Hz, the same as with XP where it was all small, clear and readable in contradiction with Win7. The gaps between lines are bigger in Win7 in all programs / tools. So the solution is not setting it only for Office Word as many sites proposing to do...

I'd like something general for whole Win7 system - It has to be burried in REG somehow / somewhere...

At least some tips for "key" words to search?

WHY is ClearType switched off? - it should be available is most circumstances. Have you tried enabling it?
Do you have the proper Graphics drivers installed?

This sounds almost like you have some kind of 'personalised' install..

we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

Clear Type changed significantly between XP and Vista - you will almost certainly need to re-optimise the screen.

btw is there such a thing as burn-in on these Laptop flat screens? It seems like mine is easier to read. I messed with gamma and other settings a few weeks ago,, but it seems to keep getting crisper text on the same site using the same skin, of its own volition, if that's not crazy talk. :)

There is almost no burn-in (or burn-out, come to that! :))
It may simply be that either you're becoming accustomed to it, or that you've change the background lighting in the room.
The backlight in many laptops nowadays is provided by LED sources, rather than older technology, and is virtually time-independent.
There may be a small amount of burn-in with the older tech - but it will settle down pretty quick

Glad to hear that! It could be too that I switched to High Performance profile from
balanced, now that I think of it. I never leave the machine just sitting around. So there's no real need for dimming the screen etc.. It doesn't fight me now when I adjust the brightness. :)

Might be worth a try. I would set a Restore Point just in case you get a weird font that makes things unreadable.

Hi MilesAhead,

yes that solution from provided link solved my problem, the SegoaUI I've changed to Tahoma (over REGISTER edition) - that's fine now.

The problem remaining is INTERSPACING between lines/buttons/control items in editors/tools/menues/lists/combo boxes ...

win7_vs_XP_padding_marker.jpg

I underline, it is not a problem of some particular SW / editor, but all applications in win7

Did you get, what I mean?

Thanks,
pd

..and did you optimise once you had switched it on?

Hi,
if you mean that 3 steps' 6 choices selection stuff, then YES.

Now I'm completely satisfied with fonts, now remains the problem from #14, please see attached file in #14.

Thanks.

Please edit out the
KMS machine name from DNS:
KMS machine extended PID
:
lines

as they could in theory (but in practice it's very unlikely) enable a hacker to gain access.
The Key (which you edited out)in this case is irrelevant since ALL KMS Keys are the same - the security is provided by the access to the activation servers of your company.

Since this is apparently a company machine, I have to wonder whether you have approval from the IT dept for the changes you're making? - and whether we should be assisting.

Hi,

yes you are correct it is a company PC.
IT department here has not any solution for it and the answer was that "nobody else has complained about it" - but I DOOOOO !!

Not speaking about, that guys are using a 24'' Monitors with win7 displaying the same amount of lines as my 19'' under XP
Not mentioning at all that my 1955 is PVA Monitor and those 24'' are bulky cheap TN( ?? ) with terrible (narrow) view angle...

Yes please help with issue described in #14
