Windows Vista Laptop

Have just been given a Packard Bell laptop (Model: Hera G) which is running Windows Vista Basic. The problem is i cannot download any security software? It appears to download the security software but when the download is complete it is nowhere to be found on the laptop.

I have tried to download any and all available Windows updates but once again it fails.

Any help and/or advice would be really appreciated.

Check if it is running Returnil, Time Freeze, ShadowProtect, or any "Sandbox" software that does not allow access to the HD. The download actually goes to a cache and the browser is fooled into thinking it downloaded to a folder or the desktop.
