Vista x64 install problem
I am trying to get Vista x64 installed onto a ide hard drive hooked directly to the motherboard. There are no partitions on the drive anymore and it has a mbr partition table. It is hooked up as primary master, the slave being a DVD burner. I am using a usb stick to install. The Vista installer sees the drive but has an error message: Windows is unable to install to the selected location. error: 0x80300001. Can anyone help me get through this install?

I'm going to try making my iso myself rather than using one from the internet and see if that changes anything
Post
here and ask Peter (Ex_Brit) to send you the link to the versions of Vista you need, 32 or 64. Include your E-mail address mucked up, like
abc at xyz DOT com then edit your post and remove it as soon as you receive the link.
The ISO Peter provides has both SP1 and SP2 applied.

STEP THREE
To Create Vista Installation DVD or USB Flash Drive with ISO File
During the install, when asked for the key, don't enter it. You will then be given a menu where you can chose the version you want to install.
Activate once the install is completed.

Turns out it was the iso I downloaded that was to blame. I built my own, made a usb key, and I am now able to install Vista x64
