Vista - can't open control panel

Since this morning I can't open the CONTROL PANEL, after going start>control panel, the control panel comes up but then i get this message , "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING" and after that "WINDOWS EXPLORER IS RESTARTING" , all windows close and everything restarts. HEEEEELP !!!!

Have heard of this before,many ppl seem to be having this problem.

Try "changing the Start Menu to Classic and then access Control Panel "
Also try deleting those ".db" files,they sometimes cause a problem.

Since this can be because of many things, make sure u have Windows Firewall turned ON , and a good Updated Antivirus Installed.

If you've recently added something to the Control Panel (usually a peripheral), remove it. This happened to me after Intel posted a new driver for my motherboard that was incorrect. I had to restore. A couple days after my problem, the driver disappeared from their website.

BTW - those weary of System Restore (as I was), rethink it. It is very handy and pretty darn reliable.

Did that and still have the problem. What are ".db" files, to what are them associated. I have Norton 360 and it has a firewall.

I haven't added anything to my computer in months, I have tried the System Restore but still have the problem. The only recent updates were from Microsoft.

Hi Kornholio,

You might give this a try.

Icons are missing from Control Panel, or you cannot start Control Panel, the Welcome Center, or games in Windows Vista

I would like to thank each and everyone of you and your contribution to this problem. But the problem never went away, I did a clean install and problem resolved. So people thanks!!!!

I had a major problem with Vista and USB, and the reinstall solved everything!

I was surprised how quick the Vista install actually is!

The installation is quick, but it's the setting everything up that gets you. (haha)
