Hi all,
I've recently upgraded from XP 64bit to Vista 64bit and I've noticed that when the hard drives park from not being use that they freeze the computer whilst they power back up.

Is there a way to fix this issue, as it can be a pain in the arse when you are playing CS:S etc...

Thanks!

Hi Halvare,

Welcome to the forum.

Check in the Power Options, in the Control Panel, and make sure that under Hard Disk you have the time set to only a few minutes before the time you have the computer to go to sleep. You could also set it to Never.

Hope this helps,

I had the same problem (even after having changed the HD sleep settings) and few time later one of my Sata disks burned out....
WD 250GB. Tried to recover the data on it but the controller is physically burned. Vista x64 (warned me before of a malfunctioning HD)
I used this disk on my XP pc before
(friends of mine seems to suffer also from faster HD crashs using Vista with previous xp used HD)

Thanks for the replies!
My issue has been fixed by turning the sleep mode off. The freezing was caused by the HD spining back up.

Thanks!

i get the problem by background software, like defrag or antivirus and crap that freeze windows vista and windows xp too.

Never had that issue with XP unless you are using defrag. If your AV is doing it then you need to kick Norton, McA, Fsecure, etc off your PC and get a better AV.

NOD32 works on XP/Vista 32/64Bit and has worked wonders for me since installing it 2 years ago. One of the best streamline AV's around (Low CPU, low Mem, low space. And the best bit is no kicking to desktop everytime you update (spit@Norton).
