Hi Mathews,

Welcome to the forum.

Is the XP a recovery DVD (installable clone of hard drive), or a actual installation DVD?

Double check in you BIOS to see if it is set to boot from CD/DVD first.

You should be able to boot into the XP DVD and format the hard drive with it, then be able to proceed with installing XP.

It shouldnt matter what OS you have, if your trying to boot from a CD then you dont boot the OS at all so its not a factor (i think).

When you turn on ur comp does it say anything saying "press this button to choose boot device" or similair? if it does then press the button and choose your CD/DVD drive.

If you dont have that option you probably have to change the setting in you BIOS, go into your BIOS by pressing whatever button it says when you turn on the computer (on my computer it is the delete key) and then look around in there until you find an options along the lines of boot device priorities or something similair and set the CD/DVD drive to be first then the Hard Drive to be second. But make sure you dont change anything else because you could screw something up.

Mathews,

You should check to see if there is a new BIOS or Chipset Driver version available for your motherboard. Sometimes older motherboards will need a new BIOS flash to work properly with Vista.
