Frequently run programs on list

Using Vista HomeP, and hope that doesnt cause a problem as I see this is x64 :)

I would like to stop the Vista Welcome Center from appearing on my frequently used programs list on the start menu, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it. I manually remove it, and it comes back. I shut off the feature from the start properties and it comes back when I turn it back on. I never use the welcome center and the first time it popped up on the PC ( new) I disabled it...or so I thought

Question is why does it keep reappearing on the list and I do not use it. Is it set to be on the list and how can I stop it. I recall in XP I could disable it on a per program basis, but Vista does not seem to have that feature.

Welcome to the forum. :party:

Have you tried unchecking both item under the Privacy section in Start Menu properties, and then restart the computer and check them again? This should reset it.

You can take a look at step 3 in the How to Turn the Recent Items List On or OFF section in this tutorial as a reference.

Yes I have turned off the privacy items and rebooted, then turned back on the programs only, as that one is of use to me, and programs appear there even if I do not use them, the frequent and most notorious one is the Welcome Center. I am curious as to what is causing it to do that.

Bill,

This is a persistant bugger. Try typing "shell:recent" (no quotes) in the white line (Start Search) area of the Start Menu and press Enter. Look at the contents of the folder to see if it may be listed in there. If it is, then delete it.

I'm at a loss to. The only other thing I can think to try is these two ideas:

This may work:
1. Uncheck both items under Privacy section, restart computer, run sfc /scannow from a elevated command prompt, check items again. See this tutorial for how to use the SFC command.

I thank you for the assist. The PC is only two months old and since I use it primarily in my business I am going to give the repair etc a pass ...I would hate for something to happen that would cause me down time, too many bills to pay ......:)

Its not a big deal just a curious annoyance and maybe some day down the road it may get resolved...
