Solved Help CI.dll Corrupt or missing!!!!!

I tried copy D:\ci.dll C:\windows\system32 but it says io device error. then i tried, copy D:\ci.dll X:\windows\system32 and it copied is this correct? i know my primary drive is C:\

Yep ,but it still doesnt work. i'm going to reinstall, but my vista disk wont boot. is there a way to make it bootable by putting it on a flashdrive

i Just want to say thanks to everyone who helpedDDDD. I couldnt fix Ci.dll , but instead i'm just doing a reinstall. My vista repair disk and install disk take an awfully long time to start, maybe my systems really clogged. Thanks again, hopefully i dont have any more problemsDD

This is probably just your best bet Fastboy to reinstall. And have an antivirus actively monitoring at all times so you don't get any more viruses that probably caused your problems.

I tried making a bootable flashdrive but i couldn't get very far through the tutorial. i don't know whats wrong with my disk, it was working fast a couple of days ago. it takes about half an hour to get to the language settings page , then i click install and it says please wait, and i cant get past there. ive left it for about 2 hours and so far its done nothing. the disk isnt scratched , because it does the same with the repair disk

Doesnt matter now anyway.As far as i know, my harddrive is toast..I go into the windows xp installation and find that it doesnt detect any hardrives at all..Yet again, i still get the error Ci.dll missing or corrupt, my laptop must know windows is still there anyway.

there is still no way to retreive files from a corrupt hardrive.

I suppose that you could try picking yourself up another hard drive since they are pretty cheap these days, then reinstall Vista on it instead. Afterwards, if your lucky, you may be able to have some access to your old drive to be able to copy files from it.

i have to buy a new harddrive, $130 for a small one and of course they are more expensive for laptops..My harddrive is still recognised in the bios . its just that the vista and xp installation don't recognise it.

Hi Fastboy,

You could try running Seatools for dos - downloadable.iso - burn to cd - it checks and tries to fix disk errors.

Otherwise, you may have to try and recover as best you can from your HD , as Shawn says.

Crazy tho. it sounds, freezing the HD can often help.

Edit : Seatools might only be for Seagate/Maxtor drives - your drive manufacturer will probabaly have something similar available from their website http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

dam!!!
i just manged to format my harddrive with gparted before i saw SIW2s post. can i get my stuff off still???????????I try to install windows vista, but it stops at "26% expanding files" and says file missing.I Try to install windows xp, but it says no disk in the drive.i can now view my harddrive in my dads desktop computer using an adapter, i dont want to try to much because i want my files if i still can.When the vista install stops at 26%, the harddrive clicks?????

Now the HD has been formatted and you have tried to install on it - hard to tell what you would be able to recover.

about a year ago I bought an APC magazine which came with a system rescue disk. It has been very helpful because its basically a linux live cd distro which has GParted ,Testdisk, mozilla,Run,Terminal and much more. Funily enough everything I've needed so far has been off that disk, which saves me having to download huge files when I only have a 1gb a month plan at 256kbps download speed.I dont know why I posted this:eek:.:D

Anyway.

I used test disk and scanned my disk etc etc After about an hour of scanning I finally found my lost partition, I pressed P to see what was inside the partition and I could see every single file, my songs,pictures,documents D:Detc So i changed the deleted partition to P for primary and pressed write to partition table or whatever it calls it.Then when i do a Quick scan, i can see my partition, but down the bottom it says "no bootable partition found".I also pushed P again to look through my files, but when i do all i can see is two folders with the same name "dr-xr-xr-x".
Have I done something wrong or is my harddrive gone for good.

BTW when I do a Deep scan I can still see the partition that was originally deleted with all my files intact. If its just not able to write to my harddrive, is it possible to restore my files to another harddrive then permenately delete everything in the "partition table" to hopefully get rid of all bad sectors etc

Hi,

You can make a sector by sector copy with this free app.

It will use as much space as the old hd. Or just copy the partition you want.

EASEUS Disk Copy: Free Disk Copy, Disk Clone, Partition Copy Software. Sector by Sector for hard drive backup freeware.

When your data is on the new working hd, you can have a go with with testdisk on that.

Just a Quick Question.
When i restore my partition and it has those folders in it dx-xr-xr-x , I cant view my harddrive on my dads computer at all,but i can if i have my harddrive blank.

Will it still retrieve my files because all i want is to get my files back.
I will be happy when I can finally put a solved tick on this thread," I could have my own little ceremony ."

Hard to know, Fastboy- I haven't come across that before. Not an expert on Testdisk I'm afraid.

The point of doing a sector by sector copy is that it is identical. You can work on that better when it is on a functioning hd.

Hello Everyone,
I just want to say thanks to SIW2, Airbot, Brink and z3r010 D:D for the help you gave me with my problem with my laptop.In the end I found that my hard drive is faulty,but luckily my laptop is still under warranty and I can send it in for repairs.I am yet to find out if its going to work or not, but either way I can still get my laptop replaced.
