Cannot update my Videocard driver

Hi everybody,

First, this is my first post here... and second, my english is not very good. So try to be cool with me!

So, I will try to tell the most information I can do.

I've buy a new laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A200 with Vista Home Premium 32bit. The graphic card it's a Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family. the last version of the driver it's the 7.14.10.1280, May 22, 2007.

But the problem it's I cannot update the driver. I've downloaded the good driver, but when I want to install, i've got this error message:

error1zt1.jpg

« The driver cannot be validated in this computer. Contact your hardware vendor to get the right driver. The installation process will stop. »

So, after few minute, i've found a utility from intel to identify the chipset of the card. Again, i've got this page:

error2lp6.jpg

What is strange, it's that the utility cannot identify the chipset... weird! So the only way I can get a new driver it's if Toshiba update himself the driver, otherwise I will get always this driver forever!

So, what can I do to update my driver from intel? If the videocard it's a Intel, why I cannot get the driver to be install???

I'm sure you've tried to go to Toshiba and get the driver update but I thought I'd mention it.
Have you tried rolling your computer back?
If it worked before but now you are getting this error then try restoring it to before the problem arose, otherwize I'mat a loss as to why the Intel update won't work.

Hi,

The driver come "pre-installed" and I have no posibility to install from scratch because the only DVD I have it's the restore to default Vista DVD...

The only thing I can do it's to uninstall the videocard... and rollback if this don't work.

And no, i've never upgrade the driver before...

Thanks for the reply, I will keep you informed.

Most laptop (those I've dealt with anyway) video cards require a manufacturer-released driver. My guess is that they've had a need - or desire - to alter the driver for proprietary reasons, making the generic driver unusable. Just a guess, but an educated one...:geek:

So I think you are stuck waiting for an update from Toshiba.

My Computer

Did you buy this video Card or is it the one in the Laptop?
If you're having this kind of problem it might be a bad Card or it's not compatable with the Toshiba M/Board.

When you start changing hardware in Laptops you really have to be careful what you're buying, they aren't as user friendly as PC's.

Has this Laptop ever worked? If not then I'd be sending it back where it came from to be fixed.

From your last post it sounds like you tried to install a new video Card so that's the assumption I'm going on.
If Intel can't detect this Intel Card then it would be my guess that the Card's bad.

My Computer

Yep even I feel the same. You need to install a Driver released by Toshiba.
Just curious,Are there any problems with the current Driver ? If not then i think you should wait for Toshiba to release the driver and maybe send them an email asking them to release a new driver ( assuming intel has already released one based on the same chipset).

From what you're saying it sounds like you've installed another video Card?
If this is the case then it really sounds like it's a bad Card if Intel can't find its own Card.

If this isn't the case then has this Laptop ever worked?
If not then I'd RMA that sucker back to Toshiba ASAP!

If this is a Video Card you've purchased then I'd either call or e-mail Intel about the problems you're having and either make them give you good drivers or your money back.

Hi,

First, thanks for the help... very very appreciated.

So, my videocard came with my Laptop and i don't think I can change the card.

I think that I need to wait for Toshiba to release a new version of the driver. And no, I have no problem with my laptop, but I love to update all my driver/bios when I buy new stuff!

My Computer

^Yeah even i love to update stuff ,but i keep it only to Desktop computers.
For laptops its always better if u stick with the Stock ones unless its not working properly.

Hope Toshiba releases a Driver soon :).

Yeah... But what I don't like from company like Toshiba it's they don't release update often like the one who made the card (in my case, Intel).

Right now, the driver work very well... I don't have problem right now. But this week-end, I will made a complete backup of my computer (not a restore point but a real complete backup) and try to install the new driver after i've deinstall the old one.

If Vista crash, I just restore my backup (and wait 35min but hey, it's betterthan re-install everything)

Thanks alot to all of you !
