Vista 64 locking up with video card

I have just rebuilt my system and decided to try vista 64. I installed a new video card and it is creating lines across the screen and photos until vista locks up, which takes only a few minuets to do. I have tried two different video cards with the same results.
The integrated video is working but very slow compared to XP 64. I have tried catalyst 7.4 and 8.1 but neither work.

Things I've tried: I loaded Sp1 RC. I have installed and uninstalled newer and older versions of the video drivers from ATI.

My system: Vista 64; Athlon 64x2 4200, Asus V2A-VM HDMI, 4gb DDR2 667 running in dual channel; ATI Radeon X1300 pro 256mb DDR2 (Catalyst 7.11 currently) and X1200 pro integrated in the motherboard.

Re: Vista 64 locking up with video card

you MUST turn off intergrated video if you have installed a Video Card.

This is my understanding....

Re: Vista 64 locking up with video card

Thanks but the built in adapter was and is disabled in the bios. I do have the card working now but it took a couple more steps.

I tried a different brand adapter and still had the problem.
I then tried a new power supply and up'd the wattage but still had the problem. So I went and got another motherboard and tried that and it solved the problem. So even though the other motherboard was working in every regards, the pci-e 16 slot was bad.
