Best half height graphics cards with DirectX 10 support

What have forum members found to be the fastest, highest quality half-height PCI-Express, DirectX 10 graphics card?

I've currently got an ATI x1300 Pro (256Mb) but would like something that has DirectX10 support and has more and faster memory.

Depends on how much you really want to spend. I cant speak for ATI cards because im a fan of Nvidia, but if you dont want to spend to much you can go with the GeForce 8800 GT Video Card which is about $200, or the or just go all out with an 8800 Ultra.
But those are about the fastest you will get.

My Specs:
Apeiva X-Jupiter G Case
Gigabyte GA-M95SLI-S5 MoBo
Athlon 64X2 6400+ BE Processor
Chilltec Thermal Electric CPU Cooler
4x1024 Corsair TWINX DC PC6400 Ram
Geforce 8800GTX Video Card
Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Music
1x 74 gig WD Raptor for Op Sys
2x 150 gig WD Raptor X's (RAID 0)
Dual Lite-On DVD Burners W/Lightscribe
Ultra X-Pro 750 Watt PSU
Windows Vista Home Premium x64

Thanks for answering.

I wasn't aware that the Nvidia 9900 GT or 8800 Ultra were available as half height cards. Is that the case?

My machine (Dell Inspiron 530s) uses a slim line case.

Hmm...well, generally if I can't find one on newegg.com, I assume I can't find it reasonably priced. Here's what they have: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Unfortunately, you're not looking at any real blistering graphics here. I'd recommend one of the HD2400PRO cards. In my experience ATI does a better job with lower-end graphics cards and provides better support to them than nVidia does. I'd recommend reading the reviews from newegg and deciding based on that. My guess is that the regulars on this site won't have too much experience shopping for these.

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+, 6GB DDR2 PC6400 (800MHz) RAM, 2x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4 TOXIC Edition (Crossfire Mode), ASUS M2R32-MVP Motherboard, Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, Western Digital 250GB HD

Your probably right. Most people here built their systems up to run Vista at its best. I personally wouldnt go with anything but the best to make sure my system ran great.
I dont mind the random problems that occur with Vista like the memory problem with 4 gigs installed and a high end graphics card with something like 768 mb of ram. Sometimes it can be a challenge to fix it and get it right but in the end it pays off.

My Specs:
Apeiva X-Jupiter G Case
Gigabyte GA-M95SLI-S5 MoBo
Athlon 64X2 6400+ BE Processor

4x1024 Corsair TWINX DC PC6400 Ram

Re: Best half height graphics cards with DirectX 10 support

The current card runs a 4.5 on Vista Aero performance and 4.1 (was 4.2 on the previous ATI drivers) for gaming, the rest of the system runs at 5.5 for processor, 5.9 for RAM and 5.8 for disk.

I'm very satisfied with the performance/price/reliability mix of the system. It's been solid, with no software issues and generally never gets rebooted for months, running 24x7.

I spec'd the machine as follows :

530s Inspiron (biggest mistake was buying the low profile case version instead of the 531)

Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66Ghz
RAM : 4 x 1GB
Internal Disk : 2 x Seagate Barracuda ST3320820AS. SATA 3Gb/s 7200RPM 320GB Drives
External Disk : 1 x Iomega 1TB USB2 drive
Graphics : 1 x Radeon X1300 PRO 256MB running dual head with
Screens : 2 x Dell 2407WFP-HC DVI 24inch LCD flat panels
Optical Drive : Hitachi-LG GSA-H31N DVD+-RW dual layer
SATA Controller: 2 x Intel ICH9 SATA controllers (2926 2 port & 2920 4 port)
Ethernet : Intel 82562V Gig Ethernet
Running Dell Firmware - 1.0.12
Running OS : Vista Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 1.

Although on the Dell website, this system has no 64Bit drivers available for it, the Intel, ATI websites and Microsoft Vista 64 disk has all the support the system needs to happily run in 64bit mode.
