noob to graphics card question

Alright so i'm a fairly advanced computer user (know enough to be dangerous) but not when it comes to graphics cards. I just upgraded the on-board graphics in my Dell Optiplex 745 with a Sapphire ATI x1650 w/512MB (i know its a low-end card, but i'm not a hard-core gamer, so its great for what i need). SO, my question is should i expect its little fan to run whenever the computer is awake? ... because it currently does and while its not that loud/annoying i simply don't know what to expect from a seemingly idle machine. so are there settings for this sort of thing, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions!

Dustin

Re: noob to graphics card question

Yeah, that's pretty typical these days. If it gets louder when you start playing a game, you'll know it's working right.

If you take a look in the Catalyst Control Center, you'll see what temperature it's running at (look under the "Overdrive" settings. If your temperature is up in the red, then you should get concerned.
