That's normal with some games. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion does the same thing sometimes.
Haven't had any problems with these drivers.
I get that from COD4 a lot fieseler. I just updated the drivers tonight so it is too early to tell if that problem will reoccur. I DID however have to enable sli mode again after doing the new drivers. Did you?
ive not encountered this problem yet with new drivers. Only once after first installing them.
nooooo, im still gettin "you are to dumb to set the graphics for cod4, im going to do it for you & nag you everytime you want to play"
What am i? Senile? I can set my own grpahics how i want IW!!!! Stop telling me how to run my own stuff! Even After making so many ww2 games, its obvious to me they still dont know what a nazi is....
Im gonna try uninstalling my gfx, & reinstall cod4.... this is so annoying, especially when i just miss a player slot on servers with my friends
You can try doing a clean install of your video drivers by first downloading the driver and saving somewhere. Download driver cleaner pro from here and install it.
Then go to your Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Hardware>Windows Update Driver Settings and choose Ask me each time when I connect a new device. This step is to stop Windows from installing its own driver for your video card once you uninstall it.
Now once you've done all of that, uninstall the video driver and reboot into safe mode.
In safe mode, it may ask you to install a driver for your card, just cancel it. Run Driver Cleaner Pro, and in the drop down select nvidia WDM and click start. Then select nvidia and click start ((note: it may not happen to you but when i clean with the 'nvidia' filter, it cleans the registry like it's supposed to but then doesn't stop. I've had to bring up the task manager and kill the process)).
So you've uninstalled the video driver, and cleaned the registry of leftover driver entries. Reboot again into normal Windows. Cancel when it asks to install the driver for your card. and finally install the driver you had downloaded previously.
With these steps, you've ensured a clean install of your video driver. Hopefully it may help some of you with your game problems as I also have the 175.16 and haven't had any problems with any Source games (CS:S, HL2 & EP1 & EP2, TF2, HL:S, etc...), CoD4, Guild Wars, Halo, UT3, DiRT, Bioshock, Crysis,...

i didnt have chance to do a clean gfx install (thanks for that, im gonna do that if it goes wrong again!) but i did reinstall normally & reinstall cod4 & disabled desktop composition & ran in compatibility mode for xp sp2.
I think it has something to do with windows experience scores/aero. If you play the game normally, ie no compatibility emulation etc. You will notice that windows tells you that aero has been disabled. Even when cod is minimized, the aero glass theme is still disabled. So i think that when the game boots up, it starts running with aero enabled, then disables it - so cod4 thinks that your pc doesnt use aero theme (which hogs resources & some of direct3d or something) but when the game boots, it detects that is aero enabled, which is using resources & other pieces of software (possible directx?) so it thinks the pc is different. disabling desktop composition disables aero before the game boots so it fixes it.
well thats my theory anyway
That is a pretty common message fiesler and it takes only a nano second to click no and move on. I asked some folks in my former clan about it (computer geeks as well as game geeks lol) and they said it happens to them as well. I have two 9800 gx2's in SLI mode and the game wants to set MY graphics at a lower setting lol. Also, at random times I get the "we detect your hardware has changed, want us to set it up for you dummy" message as well. Be like Nancy Reagan and just say no lol.
EDIT: LOL I just read your last post. That may be the case.
