Just got a sapphire hd 2600 pro...........

The agp versin which states its memory speed is 1000 MHz ddr2 but in the cat center in ati overdrive options its running at 500 MHz normal setting ?
Is this normal ? dont know to much about graphics cards !

Hi Jay,

This is perfectly normal. The following explanation is taken from 'Upgrading and Repairing PCs, 18th Edition' by Scott Mueller, Chapter 6, Page 525.

"Double data rate (DDR) SDRAM memory is a JEDEC standard that is an evolutionary upgrade in which data is transferred twice as quickly as standard SDRAM. Instead of doubling the actual clock rate, DDR memory achieves the doubling in performance by transferring twice per transfer cycle: once at the leading (falling) edge and once at the trailing (rising) edge of the clock cycle (see image below). This effectively doubles the transfer rate, even though the same overall clock and timing signals are used."

So the 1000 MHz you stated in your post is the DATA FREQUENCY whereas the 500 MHz is the CLOCK FREQUENCY.
DDR2 and DDR3 are simply faster versions of DDR memory, but they are not interchangeable due to physical module differences.
