new card/hook up

Once i get my new graphics card and install it. I hook up my monitor to the new card, not where it is now on the intergraded mobo. This will improve my picture quality. Now when I put in a dvd to watch it is kind of grainy. The addition of a new graphics card should fix this and improve my index score. If I am understanding all this info correctly.

Re: new card/hook up

Well, yes, yes and yes - with caveats.

  • You'll probably want to refer to your motherboard BIOS instructions to have the PCIe slot enabled first for video display - thereby bypassing the onboard (and if there is a way to disable ti then you might want to do that too, as onboard Video Chipsets *sometimes* grab a part of your RAM for use as Video RAM - but I do not know if it grabs it even if it is not being actively used).
  • You'll want to make sure you have the latest drivers for the card installed
  • You'll want to make sure your motherboard can handle the card
