Vista - new card/hook up

Once i get my new graphics card and install it. I hook up my monitor to the new card, not where it is now on the intergraded mobo. This will improve my picture quality. Now when I put in a dvd to watch it is kind of grainy. The addition of a new graphics card should fix this and improve my index score. If I am understanding all this info correctly.

Well, yes, yes and yes - with caveats.

You'll probably want to refer to your motherboard BIOS instructions to have the PCIe slot enabled first for video display - thereby bypassing the onboard (and if there is a way to disable ti then you might want to do that too, as onboard Video Chipsets *sometimes* grab a part of your RAM for use as Video RAM - but I do not know if it grabs it even if it is not being actively used).
You'll want to make sure you have the latest drivers for the card installed
You'll want to make sure your motherboard can handle the card
