Any Stable Video Card for Vista??

Hello everyone,

I need to find a reliable and stable video card for Vista64. I've been using an ASUS nvidia 8800 GTX for over a year and it really sux ...since i installed Vista 64Ultimate its getting worse.
My first issue with it, was a power supply compatibility issue with my Antec 1000W power source when not recognizing the power it gets and the nvidia sentinel down-clocking the GPU ... now in Vista64 i have lot's of BSoD's, driver crashes and recovers, etc... I assumed they would eventially get the drivers right, but no luck yet.
My last BSoD it' regarding nvlddmkm.sys (0x00000116) which, from what i read on forums doesn't have a fix till now and can be also encountered with nvidia 9800 cards.

So can anyone recommend a video card that its tested (ATI or Nvidia) and it runs smooth with a Vista64 system, with no major driver issues or BSOD's?

All help its really appreciate it .

Thanks

PS I forgot to mention that i need a card suitable for most of the 3D games as WoW, AoC, Crysis with nice fps.

My system is:

I use an ATI 2600XT for 9 months now.
Only in the beginning there were some driver problems.
But since last year december's driver update it runs fine.
The only thing I never instal is the Catalyst Control Centre.
That is stil giving problems, for example a slower system start up.

My eVGA 8800 GTS is stable in Vista. You need to find a motherboard and video card that are stable together. Vista stablity means your drivers for motherboard and video drivers are stable.

I would RMA that card. I run the exact same PSU with 2 XFX 8800GTXs and 4 hard drives with Vista 64. I have absolutely no problems with this setup. I would try the second set of PCIe power connectors first before you RMA, though.

On a separate note, some Antec 1000 TPQs had some problems with the G92 cards and power sentinel but I haven't heard of any problems with the G80 chipsets.

This would be the best bang for the buck. After rebate $164.99, WOW:cool:
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

It easy outperforms the 8800Ultra and the GTX, and even the 9800GTX. For alot less money...
AnandTech: The Radeon HD 4850 & 4870: AMD Wins at $199 and $299

But if you want stay Nvidia cards, "great cards" i would recommend this card.

In addition you can easily CrossFireX or SLI either of these cards on an Nvidia chipset.

Cherish... :)

I have the ati radeon x850xl gddr3 256 mb card and it has been a solid card for me running Windows Vista.I have played call of duty 4 and fear and quite a few other games and it has worked great for me.Every once in a while the driver quits on me but no really a big deal.

Using an ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus with an ASUS 8800GT I have had no issues. I had BSOD's related to incompatible memory a very long time ago, but never anything related to the video card. Latest Vista x64 drivers for my hardware have been stable in every way.

pop in a GTX260 or a 4870....for 1920x1200

both consume less power than the GX2 for about the same performance...

not to mention the GX2 is still extortionately priced :)

yes you are right about the price...I'm thinking to change it for an
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 256-bit PCI-E

what do you think? will this work well with my nforce chipset Motherboard and Vista64?

there shouldn't be a problem.... but its tempting fate buying an ATI card for an Nvidia chipset
the 64-bit aspect is not an issue i know plenty of ppl who run it on vista x64

great choice though...:)

I was reading over this and Palid said you could Crossfire 2 4870's on a Nvidia Chipset.. is that true.

I've been wanting to get a new GPU.. but I have a Nvidia chipset.. the eVGA 750i. it's SLI certified.. so I've been wanting to get a 260, or the 9800+. but recently I've been wanting to change my mind and get the 4870.. I can use that on my board. but you can't crossfire an ATI card on a SLI board can you?

no sorry mate .....its not possible

maybe with some botch hacked driver but its certainly not the norm & i wouldn't recommend it...

i have heard no stories of this being done on the forums i frequent...

(or maybe i have been under a rock..lol):)
edit...

''Can you use SLI on a CrossFire board or can you use CrossFire on a SLI board ?
Well , in general , the answer is NO. But it's said that if you hack the drivers , you can use SLI on a CrossFire board or CrossFire on a SLI board.
Caution:There is no guarantee that if you hack the drivers then you use SLI on a CrossFire Motherboard or CrossFire on a SLI board, so do it at your own risk!''

i have bought and installed the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 256-bit PCI-E and for the moment i am very satisfied. no bsod, no crash, games are running smooth in 1920x1200...i dont want to use two cards so i hope i will not have problems even if the motherboard has an 790i nforce chipset. Thank you all for the suggestions, i will post again if any problems appear.
