About four weeks after the release of the GeForce GTX 200 series, NVIDIA has slashed the price of the GTX 260 and 280 GPUs in responce to competition from AMD/ATI.

Here are the details for the price cuts:
  • GTX 260 - Now: $299/Was: $399
  • GTX 280 - Now: $499/Was: $649

ATI Makes their own cards, I usually stick with those. All the other manufactures are about the same...

I may have to sell my 8800 GTX and pickup a 9800 GTX now...

Re: NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

hey guys, I'm building a gaming computer and have a quick question of your opinion on a graphics card choice (regarding the topic of the price drop of the gt 200 series).

My initial choice was the
XFX 9800 GTX Black Edition (Core clock 760MHz, Memory Clock 2280MHz)
Newegg.com - XFX PVT98FYDBU GeForce 9800 GTX Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
$209.99 after rebate

Then after the price drop
XFX GT 260 (Core clock 576MHz, Memory Clock 2000MHz)
Newegg.com - XFX GX260NADF9 GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
$299.99

Do you think it's worth an extra $90 to go ahead and get the gt 260?

Re: NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

haha my crummy laptop wouldn't handle Vista. Here's the other parts I'm getting:

Antec 900 case
Raptor 150gb 10,000 rpm Hard Drive
EVGA 750i FTW motherboard
Intel Core 2 Q6600
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro heat sink
4gb (2x2) G.Skill PC2 8500 (DDR2 1066)
Samsung 20x DVD Burner (model #SH-S223F)
Vista x64 Home Premium

The PSU I had chosen was the Antec NeoPower 650W
Newegg.com - Antec NeoPower 650 Blue 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Power Supplies

I'm thinking that I'll get the gt 260. What PSU would you recommend to handle this setup?
