| Vista hope premium (not SP1) | Watching movies on TV Hello. recently I have connected my laptop (Toshiba A135-S4467) to my CRT TV via S-video. this laptop came with a Vista home premium 32bit OS. I have converted it to XP Pro. when I watched movie files (at any player, any file type) on the TV (I used extended desktop option) there was no problem. 2 weeks ago I have re-converted the laptop to Vista OS (using Toshiba's restore disks). and now the problem: when I try to watch movie file (DVD, AVI, MPEG....) on the TV (with any player) the picture has for distortions that can be seen only on the TV screen and not on the computer LCD. I'm using the same hardware as with the XP and I'm using the same TV and the same settings. changing the resolution hasn't helped. the distortion can be seem like offset lines in the middle of the screen. thank you. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Watching movies on TV Hi, yered, and welcome to the forums. Have you searched for updated drivers for all your hardware? The image used by OEMs will most likely be outdated....and you'll want to make sure you have all software updated, including the OS, using Windows Update as well... |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Watching movies on TV OEMs - Original Equipment Manufacturers - typically build an image of Vista they they pre-install on their computers - usually only a single image per model machine, but that may vary. When they build these images, at the time they are getting ready to sell their merchandise, it is only able to incorporate the drivers that are then available. The restore disc(s) that typically come with machines like this have that same image - and thus will have drivers that can be as old as 1 year or more. Just to give you an idea, I built my computer in May - and when I bought my motherboard, eVGA had available the R1.92 version of the RealTek HD Audio drivers for Vista. The CD only had version 1.90. Now, in the beginning of August, the version is already at 2.00 - so 10 versions have been released since the version that is on the motherboard CD. |
