DVI to SVGA adapter

My mobo does not have a DVI input it just has the SVGA input for a monitor. Would I see a difference weather it be big or small useing a SVGA to DVI adapter? Would it be worth my spending that $25.00 for the adapter.

Do you mean a output to the monitor?

If so, then you will probably not see any improvement since the original output is still just a converted SVGA and not DVI. It would only be worth it if your monitor only has a DVI input and no SVGA inputs.

I'm not quite sure. My monitor has both SVGA and DVI outputs but my computer has only one input and that is an SVGA input. I gather from what you wrote is that the only way I will see a difference weather big or small is install a video/graphics card that has the input I need. Then in that case if a new card is required what would be a nice inexpensive card that will suite my needs. I do watch tv/dvds with computer, only sometimes. I have no games to play as of yet but thinking I might in the near future. So something that can handle that as well with out making a big dent in my wallet. Open to any suggestions. Thanks

I think you have it backwards. ;)

The monitor usually has the inputs, and your graphics card or motherboard usually has the outputs. I would just use the SVGA connections for now and save your money until you wanted to get a better graphics card with a DVI output later. You would then see a nice improvement in the display quality on your monitor.

I think If you were willing to pay $25 for a cable then you should seriously look into updating your graphics card.... you can pick some really good ones up for $25 give or take a few $$ that come standard with SVGA-DVI-AGP slots

In addition to Ripbox's post, it depends on how much you want to spend on a new one. They can vary quite a bit. Since your motherboard supports it, I would look into it being a PCI-E x16 card that has a DVI output.

the DVI ports on the monitor will always be governed by any dongle you use.....

if at any point you use a VGA connection you will lose DVI clarity
