Video card not recognized by device manager

New build with clean install of Vista Ultimate 64 Sp1 and the 4870x2 is not recognized by the device manager. Since it is not recognized I can not install any display drivers or CCC. Card is seated properly. Power supply is 1200 watt Xigmatek. Bios is the latest release 0408.
Please help,
Thanks.

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

Hi jczika and welcome to the forums

I have had a look at the manual for you motherboard because I thought that it might have something to do with on-board graphics - I discovered that this board doesn't have this feature. However, I found the following pertaining to graphics cards and CrossFire.

Check the orientation of the cards. Have you got the correct ones in the correct slots? Refer to your motherboard manual.
Sorry, but that is all that I could come up with. Perhaps someone who uses your particular motherboard (ASUS Rampage Formula) might be able to assist you further.

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

is tht what you have. the Rampage Formula?

also he is not doing Crossfire dwarf.. he has the 4870x2. thats a Single Card.
Right?

Are you sure it's getting enough power from that 1200w. is the PSU good. can you try a different one. or a different card with that same PSU. to try and Rule that out.

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

just to add something here my comp didn't recognise my card until i installed the drivers for it after installing vista ultimate 64 only last week.

your computer is not supposed to recognise the card without the drivers installed at least thats always been my experience with them.

try to install the drivers it should work then it will restart your computer and then it should recognise it.

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

Gunther, I got the information from the System Specs on his Profile page (see below). As you can see, he has TWO graphics cards, and is therefore utilising CrossFire.

jczika, check all connections, especially PSU connections. Here is a link to the Sapphire webpage for your card(s). Take note of the power requirements (see below). Although your PSU is powerful enough, it doesn't mean that it will work as it may not have the correct connectors - if not, you should be able to get adapters (there should be some included with your card). Remove and reseat your cards - that might be enough to make your system work if it was a dodgy connection, possibly a hair in the slot perhaps? (seems unlikely, but this HAS happened to me).

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

Thank you all for your help. I did figure it out after a couple hours of tinkering with it. I first had to install the ATI display adapter only, reboot, and then it would install the CCC, shut down, then install the second card. After the second card was installed I had no picture. I had to shut down and move the DVI cable to the second card in the lower PCI slot; runs fine now and very hot. I found a fan speed controller called Expertool ATI by Psychlone which allows very basic control of the fan without messing around with the CCC registry. In ATI Tool it is showing 1600 fps in crossfirex.

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

I have no experience with Vista 64 at all and I am wondering if older games such as Doom 3 and Quake 4 will run on it. Does anyone know?

Re: Video card not recognized by device manager

ya they shoould. If the game doesn't offer 64bit support. (Newer games do) if the ones ur tryin to play don't. then you can play it in 32bit mode and it should work just fine.
