Screen resolution problem

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600.

I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed.

The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?

Help?

Re: Screen resolution problem

Hi rayc1234 and welcome to the forums

According to the HP website for your laptop, the highest resolution available is 1440x900 and is limited by the physical capabilities of your display.

To change the resolution of the icons, please refer to the following Tutorial.

Hope that this helps.

Re: Screen resolution problem

I downloaded and installed all drivers from HP and things are looking better, however, there is one driver that I hesitated with. It's called BIOS - System ROM (WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS - Microsoft Windows Vista-based).

What exactly is this? and is it necessary to install it in order to take advantage of the hardware?

Thanks in advance

Ray

Re: Screen resolution problem

Hi Ray,

This is merely a tool to enable you to update the program code in your system BIOS from within Vista (this is the code that runs automatically when you power up your PC, evaluates your hardware and enables it to start up). If your system is running OK, I would leave your BIOS well alone in this respect as mistakes here can prove very costly - a DEAD motherboard.

Re: Screen resolution problem

I just recently bought an HP Pavilion Slimline s3407c desktop pc. My resolution is set at 800x600 and I need it higher. I am using a Acer 20" monitor. I have it hook up with a VGA cable. My Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 6150EnForce430. I called HP for their help, and we went through MANY steps to try to solve my issue. Needless to say none of them worked, I went to the NVIDIA website and updated the drivers. I have done a system recovery and so forth, but nothing seems to be working, I have gone through every single step that I have come across but nothing seems to be working. Can someone help me please!!!! I bought the computer this past Friday, and I just want my screen to be normal. The slider bar for the resolution won't budge at all. My operationing system is Vista Premium Home Edition.
Thanks
Betsy
Also I have done every update available for this computer
