| Vista Home Premium 64 bit +Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit | DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Hi All. I just got a Dell Utrasharp 2408WFP. I'm very pleased with the monitor but have read that, as it's an S-PVA panel, input lag will adversely affect games performance. Also read, maybe on this forum, that a DVI to HDMI adapter will greatly improve things. I have such an adapter cable. Can anyone confirm that it would be better than the DVI to DVI I'm currently using? I am connecting to a BFG 8800GTS OC 512MB which has 2 DVI ports so should I use it in addition or instead of the DVI to DVI? The Dell makes Vista 64 look fantastic and it's running like a dream. Thanks, John |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Hi John, Sorry, it will make no difference in quality since it is still a DVI connection just being converted into a HDMI one. DVI vs. HDMI vs. Component Video -- Which is Better? Besides that, there is no quality difference between a DVI to DVI or HDMI to HDMI connection on a computer anyway. The only difference would be if the graphics card also supports audio throughput for the HDMI connection so you would not have to run a separate audio cable to the monitor. Most do not. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit +Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Hi Shawn. Yep that helps a lot. It saves me messing about around the back of everything anyway. To be honest I think this monitor is ace as it is. The colours are excellent. I've played Bioshock, Crysis and The Witcher and they all seem as fast as normal. I'm a pretty laid back gamer and don't mind getting killed frequently so I haven't noticed any input lag anyway. Thanks for your help once again, John |

| Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Perfect timing with that link Shawn I was just about to start researching what my ideal connection would be for my new screens, looks like the DVI to HDMI that i'm using now is what I want |

| Vista 64-bit Ultimate Win7 64-bit Ultimate XP SP3 32-bit Pro | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Hey z, why don't you go true HDMI. As Shawn has said you can run sound through HDMI with the right cards. I have a true HDMI out GFX card. (one HDMI & one DVI out) But that would be a lot to invest in, like starting from scratch. It all depends on what you want to invest in. When I do build my first, that's the way I'll go. Later Ted |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? Yeah, I ended up researching all of this not long ago when I upgraded my monitor. The HDMI monitor has a HDMI, component, and audio jack input connections. However, the graphics card only had two DVI connections. Luckily the monitor came with a DVI to HDMI cable. I still had to run a separate audio cable though. |

| Vista 64-bit Ultimate Win7 64-bit Ultimate XP SP3 32-bit Pro | Re: DVI to HDMI Adaptor- Improvement or not? That's why I was so particular with the GFX card I got. I could have purchased a better one but few I looked at had true HDMI out. They all touted that they had HDMI out, to find out it was thru an adapter. As you say, I still have to run separate audio.
