Vista - How do i enable onboard intel GMA 3100 with nvidia 8600gt

How do i enable onboard intel GMA 3100 with nvidia 8600gt
its showing me incompatible display adapter disabled when i installed the intel driver
it works fine in xp
when i read some forms they say that its a prob with WDDM
plz guys tell me how can i make them both work together

4GB RAM
intel gma 3100 & nvidia 8600gt
1 TB HDD

I didn't think you could. when you install the driver for the new 8600GT, it automatically disables the Onboard graphics. thats what I understood.

Why would you want the onboard graphics if you have got a graphics card installed? If you want to run 2 monitors, then your graphics card is more than capable of doing that. In fact, this feature has been on graphics cards for several years now, right back to the GeForce MX400 series (and possibly earlier). If your BIOS is configured and working correctly, when you have a graphics card installed it will detect this and automatically turn off the onboard graphics. Whether or not you have the drivers installed makes no difference as far as that goes since the card is detected during the POST before any drivers are loaded into RAM.

if onboard and external graphic card works together may be the performance will increase just 5% .in xp my on board and gc are working together and there is an improvement in games too.but in vista it is automatically disabling the driver of onboard showing incompitable display adapter found

I don't think you can do both..

someone correct us here. I'm pretty sure when you add a actual GFX card the computer disables the onboard graphics.. almost positive.

I'm pretty sure your right because my onboard graphics doesn't even show up in my device manager so its disabled.

Whenever an external video card is added to a system, then the internal one gets disabled automatically. As you can run either the add-on or the integrated one. If you want a dual display then would have to use a video card which has both VGA & DVI ports or would have to use a dongle.

Its one or the other my friend!!

integrated graphics is not really designed for gaming... but it allows the rig to function without a 3rd party video card.

Thats the main reason for me to get a graphics card.

told ya.. ya you can only use one or the other.. I'd use the 8600GT. or like I said in your other post. get a 8800GT for Crysis and your others games..
