Geforce 8400M GS driver problems

I have had a couple of taskbar messages now to tell me the GPU has crashed and fixed itself, previously i had thought it was because i was running 3D games in a window, the problem shows itself as random colour blocks on the desktop and then the whole display flashing, like the computer is about to go into a UAC prompt, culminating with the message on the taskbar regarding the GPU. but now it is happening just with DreamScene running, so im all excited 'cause woo hoo, fiinally Vista is doing something other than just working right anytime all the time. I am using Vista Ultimate with SP1 32bit on my dv6519tx laptop, the laptop had Vista home premium originally, and I have the latest Nvidia driver from HP which is driver 7.15.11.7432. I have downloaded the latest Nvidia driver from their website, but as this isnt specifically a mobile 'M' driver, i havent yet installed it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Find your driver on the nvidia website and check whether it matches the HP one..

well the modded inf drivers gave me my first BSOD in Vista. (I thought people who said Vista had BSOD's were making it up!), so i went back to the Hp drivers. Have seen the strange block artifacts one time since, and it seems to be linked to dreamscene playing.

I checked on the nvidia webpage, but haven't found any drivers for your card... Try sending them an email and ask where best to download the driver for your 8400M GS. That should (I say SHOULD) take care of any display problems...

Welcome to the forums,

So, before reinstalling vista, you had proper drivers and the graphics card was working fine, or did you have BSOD's as well?? After reinstalling, you can't find the proper drivers anymore... Is that it?

My computer BSODs once in a while too, especially when playing flash videos, so I did a clean install of the latest driver at NVIDIA website (270.61), and this seems to work.
If your graphics driver is NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, then you can download the latest NVIDIA driver from their site here:
