Hi ppl, im new so bare with me pls

I got a new pc and im familiar to all the things which should be familiar to one who knows hes pcs, the thing is

i have a geforce 8400gs and its not a problem bt i would like to have my card not share its dedicated memory with the ram, how can i disable this?

i have windows vista home premium, windows xp sp2, and ubuntu 8.10 installed on my pc, 2 gig ram and 160g sata and 120g external hdd (just so you know)

but the thing is when i am in xp it shares sum ram with the graphic card which boosts it up 2 512mb, and when im in vista it boosts up 2 1gb, its working fine bt i still want it to show 256 seeing that i baught a 256 meg card, ive played i wide range of games and it seems to work the same in xp and vista - including, pro street, GRID, Gears Of War, Assasins Creed,

but pls if anyone has any idea of how i can get it to just be 256 let me know pls and tanx, oh and i have checked the bios, nothing there!

Thnx Agn.

Re: Nv GeForce 8400GS

It's a feature Nvidia use on their lower end cards (TurboCache) to increase their peformance by letting them use more memory from the system memory.

You can disable it in Rivatuner, I think:

Download RivaTuner and install it.
Run RivaTuner and go to the "Power User" tab.
Find the entry which says "NVIDIA Forceware (version) (os) System".
Click the "+" to the left of the "NVIDIA Forceware (version) (os) System" entry to display the list of values.
Find the "RMDisableRenderToSysmem" entry and set its value to 1.
Close Rivatuner and reboot.

Not 100% sure it will actually disable TurboCache, but worth a try.

Re: Nv GeForce 8400GS

Actually nevermind. Seems they updated the power user area and that isn't the correct way of doing it from what I knew. Just checked now when I got home with the latest version.

I'll have a look and see if I can find it with the newer version.
