New GPU decision

Hiya.

I'm looking to invest in some extra graphics power. Don't get me wrong...my 8800gt is great, but lacks some for cerain games.. The two choices I have decided on are selling my current 8800gt for $100 to a friend and using that money to go toward a gtx 260 OR putting another 8800gt in SLI with my current one. Also, how big of a difference is there between the gtx 280 and the 260 other than money and RAM?

Let me know you thoughts! Thanks!

Re: New GPU decision

Ask gunther, he'll give you the best answer, but from what I've heard so far, the 280 is a lot hotter under load and apparently (gunther did it) you can clock the 260 up to the level of the 280... If I were you I'd sell that 8800GT (100 dollars is a good deal (for you...)) and go for the 260... you save more then a 100 dollars getting the 260..
Just my humble opinion tho

Btw, long time no see...

Re: New GPU decision

lol yeah I've started college and haven't had a lot of time to visit lately.

I think I'm going to go with the GTX 260 as well. It seems to be my best bang for the buck, and also with my motherboard I can triple-SLI and since you can't triple SLI a 8800gt...eventually down the road I can run 3x GTX 260's ^^

Re: New GPU decision

Ahh yes but you can TriSLI 9800GTs & these can be had for peanuts.....

the G92 still offers the best bang for your buck!! (in SLI)

what resolution do you play at ?? anything below 1680x1050 & you should forget the 260 ....

Re: New GPU decision

Oh god I'll never actually get 3x GTX 260's lol.. I was just saying the option was -there-, but honestly...the monitor I would need to be able to use that much power would cost more than my PC probably, and that's saying something lol.

And my resolution is just that....1680x1050.
