Monitor Native Resolution Missing

I recently purchased a Samsung T220 monitor which is a 22" widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I installed it on my computer with the latest greatest drivers. I however cannot set the native resolution to 1680x1050 as it is not an option of my listed resolutions. The highest resolution I can set it to is 1440x900. According to my Nvidia Control Panel my native is 1440x900. But this monitor for SURE is 1680x1050 native. I turn off the "hide modes monitor cannot display" but it only lets me show 1920x1080 NOT 1680x1050. Also in the Nvidia Control Panel I tried to use custom resolutions but it says not support by monitor. I know this monitor is capable of showing the resolution as I hooked it up to a XP machine and the resolution was able to be displayed. There is stuff out there with people having this problem but there appears to be no solution. I hear a lot of people on vista claiming it could be nvidia driver problem. I do have all the latest graphic card drivers and monitor drivers along with nvidia drivers.

Perhaps its time you called Samsung.

I noticed on their website the only driver available for that monitor is version "1.0" indicating no revisions. It was released in Feb of this year.

Could be a defect in the driver programming that some users experience on a given system configuarion (such as nVidia cards, or using Windows Vista, etc)

if you can use the 1920x1080 option i would just go with that gives you lots of desktop space and your card will run it fine you may want to lower the res for gaming but that is done in the game options anyway.

also keep an eye out for driver updates it may end up solving it's self with one of those.

I can use it but my monitor says not optimum resolution. It is not support correctly by it. This is definately not a monitor issue, has to be nvidia problem and or vista problem.

its not a vista issue i have no problems selecting 1680x1050 on my 20'' samsung pebble

forget nvidia's control panel.... try & alter it through vista's display properties
control panel / display personalization / settings ..... here it should allow you to choose your native res.

are there any options on your monitor that could solve this in it's menu? ie not in vista?

have you tried previous driver versions? can you get another monitor to see if that works in the right res also i did have similar trouble on a previous computer running xp i just unplugged the monitor a few times and it seemed to work but i think it was a different problem you may just have to wait for a driver update to see if that solves it.

you could try to reinstall the display drivers, one of the control files may have been corrupt or encountered a system conflict, just a thought, i'm trying to think of anything that could solve this for you.

can you select that res in a game?

I know you said that you have installed all of the latest drivers, but did you install the monitor (not video card) drivers? This is often overlooked and can cause problems like you are having. Here are the download links I found at Samsung. I was not sure what model you had T220 or T220HD.

Perhaps your drivers have gotten corrupted somehow. Try uninstalling both your video and monitor drivers, then restart the computer and reinstall the monitor driver then the video driver. Hopefully it will work properly afterwards if that was the problem.

just a thought but why are you installing monitor drivers at all?? it's not something i've ever done or am about to do...... will your monitor run without them installed on your system and if so do you then get all the resolutions available?
your graphics display drivers should be the only display drivers you install on a system unless your an uber geek and can reslove the inherent conflict you will get from running multiple display drivers!

i could be way off the mark with this but i always thought you just plugged in your monitor and off you went. at least thats what i've always done!!!!!

Hi Gazz,

Usually if the monitor has any special features or requirements, you will need to install the monitor driver to take full advantage of these. Otherwise Vista will just use generic monitor drivers. Sometimes these generic drivers will work just fine along with your graphics card drivers, and sometimes they will not and will require the correct monitor drivers designed for that particular monitor.

Sometimes these generic drivers will work just fine along with your graphics card drivers, and sometimes they will not and will require the correct monitor drivers designed for that particular monitor.

Games not allowing higher (or native in the case of LCD's) resolutions without the monitor driver being installed (don't remember names, but do remember seeing it reported in the past).

There's something wrong going on here.

It struck me as off to see v1.0 as the only driver available when I know Samsung makes a 64-bit Vista specific driver (using it now), v3.0. So I searched for my driver (226BW) and the same result popped up: v1.0, which supports Win 98/ME/2K/XP/X64/Vista. However, abscent from the list, for both our monitors, is the 64-bit Vista version.

I'm pretty sure I'm not completely senile yet? When I got my driver it was by a direct link from the Samsung install CD to the Vista 64-bit driver (on their site). Not sure why we're having problems finding it now; it's is beyond me?

I just had a similar problem. Yesterday my Viewsonic VX2245wm was displaying optimally at 1680x1050 and when I came to the computer today it was at a different resolution. When I tried to manually adjust it back to 1680x1050 using Display Settings the highest resolution listed was 1600x1200, 1680x1050 wasn't even on the list. I of course 'googled' this problem to no end and did not find a lot of useful help. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both my Graphics Card driver and Monitor Driver (had much difficulty with the Monitor Driver) along with running Windows Update etc. At one point I even looked at buying a new Monitor :). I finally 're-googled' the problem and at the bottom of a long post found that someone had solved their similar problem by using a shorter monitor cord. That didn't seem to be my issue since I hadn't changed my cord ever but it did prompt me to think about unplugging and replugging both the DVI and Power Cord, with the computer ON. Well guess what, it fixed my problem! I couldn't believe it, I spent several hours messing around and all I needed to do was Hard Power Cycle my Monitor by physically unplugging and plugging, more than likely, the power cord. I should mention that I think, not 100% sure, that I Soft Power Cycled my monitor by using the Power Button on the Monitor while installing and uninstalling the drivers but that didn't help so long story short.

HARD POWER CYCLE YOUR MONITOR to force it to discover or in this case rediscover it's Native Resolution
