Asus Notebook

I have an Asus Lamborghini VX1 notebook that came preloaded with Vista Ultimate 32.

I recently upgraded to Vista x64.

Most of the drivers are ok, barely. The one main driver I can not seem to resolve is the Display Driver. Device Manager names it a standard graphic adapter, though I know it is a Geforce 7400 by nvidia.

I have downloaded a driver from nvidia manually and trying to install, it tells me I dont have Vista running.

I tried automatically detecting on nvidia and it advises to visit Asus website.

I visited Asus and could not find any drivers matching a 64bit version.

Has anyone any ideas?

Please ensure you are downloading this driver :

GeForce Release 178

If the problem persists, look in Add/Remove Programs and see if nVidia is referenced in there. If so, uninstall it, reboot, and try reinstalling the driver set.

If that doesn't apply or does not work, go into Control Panel - Device Manager and right click on your Display Adapter and click "uninstall". Again reboot, and try reinstalling the driver set.

Thanks for the reply CyberWolf. That Driver is the one advising me that I am not running Vista. Very Strange.

There is no reference to Geforce or Nvidia in either the "Programs & Features" or "Add Hardware" sections in Control Panel.

I have removed (uninstall) the assigned Standard Display adapter in Device Manager and then machine just reboots with the same adapter.

This is very odd. I can not even burn DVD's as the computer thinks the Video Card is not up to scratch.

Thanks!

Just for my own clarity...Can you define what upgraded means to you?

Fresh install of the 64 bit or an actual inplace upgrade meaning you did not format, you installed the 64 bit over the 32?

I used the supplied Asus Recovery DVD, this formatted to 2 partitions with 32bit Vista Ultimate. Thought this would be good for the drivers etc.

Once this was done, I put in the 64bit DVD from Microsoft and ran the setup from boot.

It coppied my old system to /old.windows/ then it installed the 64bit version.

Thanks for your help Cyberwolf. For some reason that file was corrupt, I then downloaded again and the second version was also corrupt.

I have sent another email to Asus to see if they can supply something.

Will wait and see.
