| Vista Ultimate x86-32 SP1 dual boot with Windows XP SP3 | 8800 GTS mixup? Hi folks! I was just comparing Geforce 9600 GT and 8600 GT when I noticed this: ![]() Click here for Image Why do the two 8800GTS have such a vast difference in Texture fill rates? Is it just because they are clocked differently or is it something else? If they are just clocked differently, can the non 512 MB versions be overclocked to the 512 MB's specs without self destruction? If the normal 8800GTS could be overclocked to the 512 MB version, what would the performance be like since it has a wider memory interface? And last but most certainly important question: Would you recommend to go for 8800 GTS non 512 MB version? Thanks folks! |

| Windows 7 x64 | Re: 8800 GTS mixup? The 512 version is a whole different chip to the 320/640MB version. When they released the 8800GT with the G92 core, they re-released the 8800GTS with it and 512MB RAM. You can't overclock a 320/640MB version to it, as it's not possible. The G92 chip (which is what the 512 uses) is a lot lot lot better and more efficient than the G80. If you gave the 512 card the same bandwidth and memory bit interface as the Ultra, then it would perform faster, but Nvidia limited these on the 512 to keep it under the GTX, though I find it performs the same as the GTX. I wouldn't recommend a none 512 version. The 9600GT is faster than the 320 and 640mb and cheaper in some cases. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: 8800 GTS mixup? He explained it very well.. the lower one is the original and first 8800GT(S), and the better one is the new improved one with 512MB Ram. |
