| Vista Home Premium 32bit | directx problem after crash Hello, My laptop (Hp Pavilion dv6500 Notebook Pc) had a crash yesterday but after shutting it down and restarting it, all seemd to be normal. But today when I wanted to play some Generals I got a nasty suprise. I started up the game and I got a message saying I didn't have the right directx version. This is weird since I've been playing the game for almost a year now on this laptop. Anyway, I thought maybe something got corrupted after the crash. I startend another game just to make sure and it too gave me an error that I didn't had a proper directx version. So I checked dxdiag and it said I had directx 10 as my latest version, which is what I had before the crash... I've updated all my drivers, reinstalled directx and reinstalled my games but nothing seems to work. I hope someone could point me out a direction that might help me fix this problem. I'm a student I seriously need my games for some relaxation .Frank Video card: Code: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: directx problem after crash thank you for the heads up about the new version and the link Fumz. Sadly it didn't work. I'm not an expert of directx or anything but it shouldnt matter what version I use for directx aslong as its above the minimum of the game right? I mean, generals is pretty old and only uses version 8.3 so if I have 9.0, 10.0 or 10.1 it would be fine... I think something got royally screwed during the crash... Even the game Morrowind is bitching about not having the right directx version and that's even older then generals. anyway, thank you for the fast reply. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: directx problem after crash By, "didn't work", do you mean that DirectX 10.1 didn't install or that you're still getting the same error messages from your games? What was going on when you crashed? Go to the Control Panel/System and Maintenance/Performance Information and Tools. In the left pane at the bottom select 'Advanced tools'. Select Open Performance and reliability monitor. Elevate privleges and select reliability monitor. There should be a red circle with a white x on the date of the crash; click it. Where there's a problem the + sign will expand. What caused the crash? |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: directx problem after crash 'Didn't work' as in didn't solved the problem. I patched it up to 10.1 but I still got the error that I need directx 8.3 or higher :s I followed your advise, and searched for any data on the day of the crash. The weird is that it only showed an overview of windows defender updates, and the detection of an usb (standard things) but no reports of soft-/hardware problems. But I found another side affect of the crash. I wanted to work on some homework, but the word document I made that day, wasn't there. Also some scans I also made that day where gone. So maybe the computer didn't save the reports?! Is that possible? |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: directx problem after crash I was toying around with differend resolution settingsn when all of a sudden my laptop crashed. Anyway, I've resetted my computer to a day before the crash and reinstalled all my games. I also updated my directx tot 10.1... Somehow this solved my problems (I never knew there was an option to reset your computer to previous date). Though I still want to thank you again Fumz for all your help. Frank |
