| Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1 | Need help now! Unsure about proccessor speed! hello everyone. I really need an answer for this question and need it now! Today i bought a hdtv tuner for my laptop. It is an expresscard digital tv tuner made by kaiser baas, a company i have never heard of. the side of it says that the system requirement for the proccessor is 2.4 ghz. My laptop has an expresscard slot that supports both card formats. My proccesser is an intel centrino core 2 duo proccessor at 2.0 ghz. Because it is a core 2 duo, does that mean i can support 2.4 even though myne says 2.0 ghz? Please help cause if i open the cover i can't bring it back. I have read the other requirements. My other question is: it says directx 9.0, but I'm using Vista, does that mean I already have directx 9.0 cause I have installed many games like halo and age of empires 3. Thanks |

| ultimate 64 SP1 | Re: Need help now! Unsure about proccessor speed! Hi Tristan-117..... theoretically it wont work, even though you have 2 cores they are still only working individually @ 2ghz (but stated Manufacturer specs are often wrong) DX9 software should run on DX10 so that shouldn't be a problem. | Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1 | Re: Need help now! Unsure about proccessor speed! well i ended up opening ityway because i talked to someone who knows a bit about computers. He told me it should work. So yes i took it out of the packet and installed it to find... It works perfectly! everything works. Only 2 problems are n.1 i couldn't download a tv guide which is most upsetting. n.2 it takes a while to find a good spot where the antenna can get a signal. to find out more, i minimized media center to the desktop, but in the mode where whatever your watching actially becomes your desktop! i did this by pressing and holding win key and then pressing m once i had done that i looked at my cpu meter and saw it running at 40% !!!! i even went into my pictures, looked at photos. Everything ran smoothly! NOTE: I have not tried veiwing a high definition channel so we have to wait and see about that. Does anyone no why it worked so well? remember this is a laptop not a desktop. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Need help now! Unsure about proccessor speed! the requirements for that card state that you need a 2.4GHz P4. You have a 2.0GHz Core 2. Clock speed isn't everything, a Core 2 Solo (single core) running at 1.8GHz is still faster than a P4 running a 3.0GHz+. Clock speed is only useful when comparing processors of the same generation. With a Core 2, you have a completely different architecture with a much faster bus speed, and smaller core, the P4 Northwood is a 90nm core while the Core 2 is 45-65nm, depending on the core. Here is a quick comparison of a Core 2 Duo running at 1.8GHz and a P4 at 3.0GHz: Charts, benchmarks CPU Charts 2007, HD Video Playback Clearly much better performance from the slower (clock speed) processor, even tho the majority of the benchmarks are single-threaded and only use a single core. You have more than enough power to use that card... Last edited by Mark3748; 11-12-2008 at 06:19 AM.. |
