What card - 9800GTX+ or GTX260

As I said in an earlier thread, my 9800GX2 is having serious heat problems; the retailer has told me I can return it and exchange it, so I will be getting a different card and getting another HDD with it.

What should I get - 9800GTX+ or GTX260?

I am after gaming performance - Far Cry 2, Sacred 2, Crysis etc. I also prefer nVidia over Ati, which is why I chose those two cards. I want something thats never going to give me overheating problems like the 9800GX2 is!

GTX260 FTW!!

see if you can get the 216SP model & that card will play anything currently out & anything coming out in the next few years @ MAX settings

if you have been powering the GX2 then Amps wont be a problem.

if you are going to get a graphics card between these 2 then get the 260gtx, but get a factory overclocked card, i got the xfx 260gtx xxx and its sweet as a nut, runs crysis max dx10 at 1920 x 1080 at about 20-30fps. if i wanted a faster framerate, all i do is drop the res to 1280 x 720 and its got about 30-40fps. but i got a 3-way sli mobo so i may just get another one and bump performance up about 40%

Well if you were going for a 9800GTX from a GX2, you'd be downgrading...so a GTX260 is the better option.

What temps have you been getting with your GX2?

damn thats hot, is that under load? i think you need to change GPU or get an aftermarket cooling system, well the 260gtx in my system idles about 46-50 degrees celciusand under load is about 60-70c, heres a pic to prove it, mind you the cool temps may be because of the casing. (antec 900)

Nice.
I have a Coolermaster CM690, plus the room is air-conditioned; I think the card is faulty, because when I first got it I could play games for hours without a problem, it just gets worse and worse now.

none the less i use a very fine paintbrush and it does a damn good job of cleaning out any fans i have, it just sounds like your fans have clogged with grease and dust. you need to get a second opinion or change your card.

My father has a big compressed air blower, it's awesome!

In any case, the fan is clear, it's one of the first things I checked.
