Vista - BSOD when installing nvidia video drivers

Hello,
I just built a new PC and installed Vista Ultimate 64 SP 1. When I try to install the video drivers (evga eGeForce 9600 GT in a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UDP3 motherboard) I get the blue screen of death. I have tried the latest version, and several other older versions of nvidia drivers. The Windows standard driver works fine, but I want to use dual monitors. What else can I do?

Did you get the driver from nvidia or through windows update?

I tried the driver from nvidia, and the one from windows update. I also tried to use several older drivers and a 2 beta drivers from nvidia as well. When i finally got Windows to update, the PC wouldn't boot. So i had to do a repair from the install disk. I don't want to have to go through the updates one by one but it's looking that way now.

What was the bugcheck (STOP error) on the BSOD? Was a NVIDIA driver specifically mentioned?

Yes, stating a BSOD without naming the error does not help a lot - also check to make sure your BIOS is the latest version....

My friend had the same problem once and well as me and he did something to fix it. Make sure your computer parts are in right and make sure the cpu, ram, ect arnt what caulsing it. That dosent help go to nvidia and ask them. I'l ask my best friends dads, her father is a computer dork j/k he knows every thing he fixed my bsod issues.

Problem solved. The original install disk I used was Vista SP1 64 bit. I also tried to install Vista SP1 32 bit as well. Both of those disks would not allow updates to run upon install and IE kept stopping and would not function. I re-installed Wupdate and ran it, and then my PC would not boot at all.

I solved my problem by going to msdn and downloading Vista 64 without SP1. I installed and updated it and everything worked fine including dual monitors. No BSOD and IE worked fine as well.

It turns out that my Dell studio 15 apparently does NOT contain nVidia but rather intel Express chipset family - Mobile 965.
The BSOD on 64-bit Vista Home Premium in my case appears to relate to the camera (built in). I just said "re-boot normally" and Vista seems to have done a self-repair.
This laptop had Microsoft Office 2003 which seemed to install and run fine; however, is it possible that Office 2003 and 64-bit Windows do not get along well? Could that Office give the BSOD? I am trying version 3 of OpenOffice instead.
