| ultimate 64 SP1 | the new GTX295 in jan 09 Quote: NVIDIA would be giving its flagship consumer graphics processor, the G200 a refresh using the newer 55nm silicon fabrication process. With this, the company plans to carve out new SKUs taking the benefit of enhanced thermal and electrical properties of the updated core. In the pipeline, is a dual-GPU card based on two GeForce GTX 260 GPUs. Expreview learned that the new graphics card is to be named GeForce GTX 295. NVIDIA is creating the card to regain the performance crown from ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, the fastest single graphics card in the market. The card will sport two G200b cores in the 216 SP configuration, although not much is known about the memory configuration and clock speeds, at this point in time. The card has already passed design phase and is awaiting trial production and testing. It is expected to be released in January 2009. this GPU war is starting to get me down, i wanna buy something & enjoy the fact that its ''top of the range'' for a while.... if this card is 55nm it might have a chance of lasting more than a week before it burns a hole clean through your floor.....lol SK |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 The GPU war is great, though, in that the companies are not able to make a lot of money off their cards for very long - in the end, benefiting the consumer. I bought an 8800GTS retail in April - and was able to upgrade (using eVGA's Step-up program) to a GTX260 for $60 additional because of the GPU wars - the price dropped well over $150 - (and I saw $150 because they sent me what is marked as an original GTX 260 but it is clocked at the SSC speeds....) |

| Vista Ultimate SP1 x64 | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 do you think we'll see any 200 series cards that only need one pcie power connector? |

| Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 No, a single connector can't handle the wattage and current loads for these cards. I would recommend upgrading your power supply to a 750W with the proper connections. |

| Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 In March of this year I bought an ECS 8800GT 512mb that came with Accelero s1 passive cooler, it cost me 210 after rebates and all the good stuff. I just purchased a GTX260 for 170 last week... I am a little hurt because my 8800GT is worth probably less than 100 now but happy at the same time because the GTX260 was priced at about 500 bucks back then IIRC. Price wars are good but they sure hurt our egos as well! |

| Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 It was on newegg a few days ago. Price was 219.99, had a coupon code for $10.00 off and $40.00 off MiR. when you are on a tight budget like I am, it pays to be extremely patient... that and I am really really cheap so I wait a long time to buy things ![]() I usually visit slickdeals.net or hardforum.com for hot deals... |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit +Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit | Re: the new GTX295 in jan 09 To get back to Skunksmash's original point I know exactly what he means and I don't know what's happened to me. My first ever pc ran XP Pro, so you can tell that despite being 54, I haven't been into computers for long. This machine was an old beige banger my mate had made out of spare parts as practice and didn't run well at all looking back, kept crashing and getting problems like malware etc due to me messing up. He had to pursuade me to take it for free! I couldn't see much use for it but wanted to go digital photographicly. I was happy with this for ages, did some photoshop, emailed, browsed around etc. and played the odd game or two. Gradually I began to desire better components and basically a better pc. So I got one two and a half years ago. I'm now on my 5th or at least a rebuild of my fourth. This has now turned into a frenzy of desire for the best I can afford at the time( and into the future actually) I think this dripfeed of technology is really powerful marketing voodoo. It's like we all move up the ladder according to our means and wait for this moments big thing in GPUs or CPUs to become redundant overnight and drop in price. But I know what Skunk means about suddenly learning that your component is no longer the best bang for buck in your price bracket. You get a pang. If I've still got anyones attention, I'm running a 8800GTS OC 512 MB and I think it's great. Do people think I should look at 280s coming down next year or go to an ATI card or just stay with what I've got until i7s and their mobos and memory come down in price and I can do a major rebuild. The latter is probably a three or four year wait whereas I can get major graphics improvements in a few months. See what I mean. It's an obsession. John |
