Re: Screen won't quit flickering

Hi poboy and welcome to Vista Forums

Your system could benefit from some upgrading. Firstly, what is the model number of your computer? You have stated that it is from Gateway, but the model number will help us to inform you how to improve its performance. I note that you have on-board graphics with only 1GB of system memory. As the graphics will share a portion of that memory, that will leave less memory for the rest of the system with the result that heavy use is being made of your page file. Since this resides on your hard disk, it is much slower than your RAM. What I suggest initially is that you increase the amount of RAM to 2GB. This will make your system more responsive, with less reliability on the paging file. However, if your system can take it, a graphics card would be beneficial. This is the main reason why I asked for your model number, so that I or someone else can suggest suitable graphics cards for you.

Re: Screen won't quit flickering

Hi poboy,

Thank you for that information. Here is a link to Gateway support for your system: Gateway Support - 5876*Gateway GT5028 Media Center Computer
Clicking on the Specifications link reveals that you have a PCI-Express x 16 slot available. Here is a link to Amazon (UK) for suitable graphics cards: Amazon.co.uk: pci express graphics card - Electronics & Photo: Electronics & Photo
Here are some suggestions from Amazon:Have a look at these, and also at the others. Hopefully, that will help you, even if you choose to get a card from elsewhere.
