Hello Aaron,
The only thing I can find is that it may be related to this link below about switching banks. Does your BIOS (motherboard) manual have any type of description for it?
Information processor operative both in direct mapping and in bank mapping, and the method of switching the mapping schemes - US Patent 5127096 Description
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey Shawn,
Yeah, that's the only thing I saw on it too, lol. I looked at the bios manual for amd athlon x2 and there's no mention. Now i've seen references to GPU bank flip online but there's no real explanation of that either. In my BIOS I have CPU Bank Flip=Disabled. I couldn't even see a explanation to either in D.B.O.G. Oh well.
I'm sorry, it is GPU, not CPUmy eyes
lol. I still can't find any explanation on that.
Another thing, in the PC Wizard (system info) program, it says Chipkill ECC/ECC capable but it says disabled. I don't see anywhere in the BIOS for this option?

I'm not sure what GPU bank flip is either. I'm sure it has something to do with the graphics card though.
It appears that Chipkill ECC is a internal part/feature of the CPU.
Chipkill ECC

Yeah, it's weird that no one knows anything about it.lol![]()
Many BIOS features don't have a good explanation. I talked with Supermicro about it. They could not determine what some of the features do. They only recommended leaving them default. Don't touch it.

Yeah, thanks Brink and Scsiraidguru. I'm not going to mess with it, just like to know what it does and the ramifications or pros of enabling it.![]()

Hi Aaron,
I have searched on Google and Yahoo! for the term "GPU Bank Flip", and have come up with nothing, apart from a few questions on other forums asking the same thing. The only thing that I can think about is that it has something to do with the data processing on the graphics card and that only certain cards support this, hence the reason why it is set as Disabled in the BIOS (where present). I am only surmising that it is a method of allowing the GPU to process a frame of data whilst displaying another and that it is only available on systems that can accept multiple graphics cards, either in Crossfire or SLI (based on my system only having a single graphics card slot and it not being mentioned in my BIOS). Of course, I realise that I might be completely wrong, but it would be interesting to find out if this is indeed the case. Of course, it could be a feature that was programmed into some BIOSes, but not actually implemented in actual systems, a bit like the Floppy which can still appear in the BIOS even though the motherboard of which the BIOS is a part doesn't even have a floppy controller on board.
I have never heard of this. It may be something that is set for future upgrade if seen on a motherboard bios. Same as reserved. If anyone gets any info or if I get any info post here. I belive we are all confused.

Yeah, that's exactly the point. I looked everywhere and only find vague references to it and no explanation as to what it does. It's in my bios, it's in some other peoples bios but no info anywhere on it. You'd think someone would know something about it. It's not a big deal, just very curious.
Thanks Dwarf, Roy69
Can any moderator please correct the title to GPU Bank Flip
