| VISTA ULTIMATE x64 SP2 | those still having the driver stopped working issue..possible workaround!! you wont believe how much trial and error i've been going thru..first my work around to a problem i was having with playings videos of any kind, ( in wmp, power dvd MPC, etc etc) which i fixed by finally discovering that if i disabled teh aero theme finally allowed me to play videos with no freezing and hard rebooting... NOW i was playing COD5 and WARHEAD, and a few others... and within 10 mins of playing i get the msg driver stopped responding blablabla, and in some case just a BSOD....and NOW!!!! after playing with NCP i tried this option under manage 3d settings CONFORMANT TEXTURE CLAMP, i changed it from default which was USE HARDWERE to " USE OPENGL SPECIFICATION" and im telling u guys its seems to be working 100% for me( possibly a directX issue causing this? )..i played the first 3 levels of WARHEAD with out any problems or crashes..then to push it..i ended warhead and immediately started COD5 and play FINALLY a full level and a half with out ANY crashes( couldnt even play half a level before which was 5-10 minutes of gameplay)..all those still having the issue GIVE THIS A TRY and follow up with your results THANKs...hope this helps !! ps: vista is like a baby..u just have to find a way to please it..once you do it'll work with you Last edited by EmulatorX; 12-09-2008 at 03:59 PM.. |

| VISTA ULTIMATE x64 SP2 | Re: those still having the driver stopped working issue..possible workaround!! update: definetly working for me.. play 40 min of COD 5 straight with no issue whatsoever.. used get driver stopped responding pop up on bottom right after only 5-10 mins of gameplay...i just played 40 mins straight non-stop of COD5..then fired up CRYSIS quickly after and played for 10 mins with alot of intense fighting and action ..NO crash!... briefly some of the things i did: reset my cpu clock back to stock which is 3ghz 1333fsb.. set my ddr 2 ram to 800mhz i had it 1066mhz although its rated as pc8500 ( 1066mhz) my 680i i think is technically supposed only support up to 800mhz.. i basically went into bios and set linked clocks..everything to AUTO and just let everything be stock.... my 2bfg 8800gtx's OC2 are factory overclocked..i left them as is.. i do though have arctic cooling accel x8800 coolers on both which keep them pretty cool..40c idle/ 55-60c load, but b4 i changed my bios setting and nvidia control panel setting to set for opengl spec, didnt matter if the cards were cool or not..i still got crashes... i got single display setting and AFR1, left IQ at default ( QUALITY setting), and i didnt have to remove any sticks of ram i want my full 8GB!!! lol.. |

| VISTA ULTIMATE x64 SP2 | Re: those still having the driver stopped working issue..possible workaround!! update # 2...so it seems i was wrong..my method for fixing this may not be the REAL reason i fixed my crash issues...after further testing i think the MAIN problem was my memory clock .. the reason i thought that it was the opengl thing that fixed it was..because... i had previously..RESET my bios setting to run all clocks at DEFAULT ... i was running my ram at 1066mhz...ALTHOUGH my ram is pc8500( 106mmhz) my mobo is rated to support up to 800mhz..my OVERCLOCK was probably a bit too much for my MOBO to handle ( the "ram" can handle it but not the mobo).. i figured this out cuiz..i reset that little setting in NCP back from OPENGL spec to default "USE HARDWARE"... and i havent had a crash...so it had to be the ram.. sorry guys i may have mislead you.. in thinking that just changing the texture conformant thingy would fix the issues that i know many are still going thru.. my advice is try to reset everything in your bios back to AUTO ( defualt as far as ram, cpu clocks go), it seems overclocking the cpu has no effect and is NOT a problem..i OC'd my qx6850 from 3ghz to 3.33ghz ( left the fsb at 1333mhz) all i did was change multiplier from x9 to x10..i left the seeting for clock to be LINKED..i used to have it UNLINKED to be able to overclock the ram...when i set it at linked..it auto set my ram clock to 800mhz , the rated maximum for my Evga 680i SLI board |
