Vista - Geforce 9600GT stops working why

after i over clock my card to a certain point the nvlddmkm stops working but after i put my card back down it starts to work again why is that??

As the card works harder and is required to do more it overheats and becomes unstable. The reason it fails earlier while playing certain games is related to the intensity of the graphics and the amount of work it is doing. You should be aware that if you continue to over clock to the level you are you will probably be looking for a new card very soon.

The sort of stable overclock you are going to get with a 9600GT is going to be so little you aren't going to notice much difference. The highest stable clock I've seen was 750/1900/2000.

NormCameron is right on all accounts.

Certain games can handle higher OC cards then others. When I was OC'ing my ATI HD3870, FEAR would crash, while Half-Life 2 - EP2 would run fine at the same OC setting. And to be honest, I wound up RMAing that card as I probably pushed it a little to hard. Based on your problem, you will definitely be looking for a new video card if you continue pushing it...the card is already giving you warning signs. I'm all for overclocking...done in moderation. Your card, your money, so...
