new video card/reformat

I have installed a video card awhile back and have a few hypothetical questions. If I had a problem that should pop up that I couldn't fix and need to reformat can I leave my video card and a proceed as normal. Would I have to remove card because it is not part of original system configuration and reinstall after the reformat. I don't know why I didn't ask about this when I got my video card but it never came to my attention. Now that it has I am kind of stumped and worried. Any body gone through something similar and what where the results. thanks

Re: new video card/reformat

you shouldn't have to i have reformatted vista many times any never taken my added card out so you shouldn't have any problems as long as you card is the same as your onboard meaning if you have NVidia onboard and a Nvidia card or ATI onboard and a ATI card

Re: new video card/reformat

I also think that as long as your Onboard card is DISABLE on your Bios, you shouldn't have any problems reformatting your drive and installing XP or Vista again. Only thing you'll need is update your video card driver after installion since XP or Vista will only install a Generic VGA driver.

Re: new video card/reformat

you don't have to disable onboard if said card mathes onboard brand but in the event you have say....... a ATI2100 onboard and NVidia 9600GT then you would need to but otherwise not nessecry

Re: new video card/reformat

Excuse the noobness question but, wouldn't you be using resources (ie: RAM) on that onboard card if you have it ENABLED, hence, loosing that memory for other needed apps? More so if it just an onboard cheap card that will not help you in any way.
