PC to TV Vista Issue

Hello everyone I am having issues with Vista x64 Ultimate and my 8800GT.

Firstly I did a lot of reading on the forums here and on Nvidia's forum and no one seems to have my setup/issue and most said "thanks its fixed" on the NV forums without listing the actual fix so that was crappy

System Specs.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 400x8- 3.2ghz
Evga 8800GT 512mb
2x2GB G-skill PC6400 DDR2 800
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45
TX750w Corsair PSU
Seagate ST3320620AS 7200RPM 320gb
Windows Vista Ultimate x64

178.13 is my current drivers.

I have windows defender/shadow drive/super fetch/firewall all that crap disabled and tweaked for performance and I am patched to the current updates for Vista.

I am wanting to hook PC to TV and am curious how to get around this.

I have a coax TV with nothing else so I use a old RF modulator I hook it up to the TV...then I take a 4 pin S-Video cable and hook it up to my 8800GT and the RF modulator. I then use a RCA red/white connector and adapter to hook from PC speaker jack to the RF modulator.

Now this works perfectly with my old XP Home and 7600GT system but it does not work at all with Vista/8800GT. Not even a screen flicker.

The issue starts I get the option of choosing single/clone/dual....I select Clone...I hit Apply then it flickers and is back to single. I do anything and it says "apply settings yes or no" no matter what I hit I lose clone/dual and all it shows is my PC monitor on Single.

I reboot and it is reset...rinse and repeat. Now I have tried old 175 drivers with no luck and this is using the same TV/wires so it should work.

Anyone have a clue what the issue could be?

Re: PC to TV Vista Issue

Well, I have a clue but don't know if it will work for you since, to be honest, I seem to be able to use mine from time to time but deciphering what I did is a crap shoot.

Somehow, the only way for me to be able to view a movie or TV Show from my PC to my TV is by actually making the TV my primary monitor, of course, this means that I have a hard time getting to my icons and other stuff to pause, stop, FF or RW the clip I am watching.

Again, this is not a solution but I only have to run through this nigthmare whenever I want to watch the MotoGP races, otherwise, I just leave it alone since I don't have the patience to make it work for daily purposes.

Re: PC to TV Vista Issue

Well firstly thanks for the help but sadly I can't even get it to actually use my TV either way.

It gives me the option of monitor + TV at first then it disappears once I do anything such as clone or dual mode so I making it primary causes the same issue to occur.

can you tell me if you have a scart connector on the TV or RGB connections? if you have those, can you use them for connectivity? the adaptors come with the graphics cards and all you need is the yellow RCA cable to connect to your TV.

Re: PC to TV Vista Issue

Well due to my TV being older I don't have such connections all I have is coax which looks like this.

To combat that I have a RF modulator looks pretty much like this.

Now the only thing that came with my the GPU other then connectors for monitor was a RCA female blue/red/green to 7 pin S-Video cable.

Going to try using it see if that might be the issue as well.

Re: PC to TV Vista Issue

Well I just got done messing with the RCA female blue/red/green to 7 pin S-Video cable.

It worked out I have picture but its grey...I also can't keep my monitor resolution @ 1024x768 on clone without losing picture on the TV and the option to change picture/resolution is greyed out so I can't change it.

Its a step forward at least. I can live with having to re-arrange my icons and resolution each time I wanna watch my TV however need to figure out why I can't get color to my TV now.

it is a bit of a predicament, its not like british RF output cables, and on the RF modulator, are you setting it to a frequency that is not in use by non digital channels?

Re: PC to TV Vista Issue

Do you mean the signal in the control panel?

Only one I could get to work was under "component high definition" and on 480i SDTV. Anything higher I get a error with my monitor for "to high frequency"

Thing I find odd is my tv far as I know is not high def so not sure why it works on that setting.

Only other ones I tried was USA NTSC and Any NTSC under "S-Video" Going to go through all the other ones later once I get back home. See if any others will work.

where do you live and what does your tv support? if your USA then NTSC should do the trick as these TVs are designed to run at 60Hz so greying shouldnt be present, if you have it set to NTSC and your using a 50Hz TV then thats why you have greying, try it at SECAM/PAL
