64bit gaming crashes

Help please.

First system I've assembled with a computer savy friend.Asus P6T deluxe,i7 940,Corsair DDR3 Dominator 1600,Evga Gtx 280,PcPower and Cooling 860watt,Vista Home Premiun 64bit,Creative Xi-fi Fatl1ty sound card.

My problem is playing Cod 5 Waw,I'm getting freeze screens.Always black horizon but lower graphics still showing. If I hit Cntrl,Alt,Delete out of the game then hit cancel in Vista.I can get back into game.If it lets me back in the game it will usually not crash again and work well.Other times I get disconnected. Other games I'm getting strange thin lines of color across screen.I've adjusted ram frequency to 1.65 using xmp in bios.Didn't solve problem.Did make it much smoother when it does work good.Using driver 180.48 I've updated evga driver and newer ones crash more.Do I need to adjust some other aspect of system to get total smoothness?Should I ditch 64 bit?Any helpful hints or thought's greatly welcomed!

Thanks very much!

Ummm... I think COD WAW has some 64 bit issues. I can't run it but my friends can (they use 32 bit). I would not however dump 64 bit just because of games. 64 bit has so many other advantages.

I don't have any problems at all with this game in my 64 bit system. I believe the cause is driver conflict with the new cards because I've heard this complain here and there.

Do you have any of the ASUS "utilities" that came on the support disk loaded? That could be causing some of your problems. I got rid of all that junk and did a clean Vista install WITHOUT AItweaker, PCProbe, TurboV, ExpressGate, etc. System has been buch more stable without the ASUS stuff. I am running a system much the same as yours. Don't have your games, but FSX looks fantastic, runs rock solid @ 50 to 100+ FPS.

bruce2 what do you recommend? What kind of card are you using in your 64 bit system?

kreika69, I wouldn't recommend my cards in my spec 'cause they are obsolete. What you got is great. There is just a glitch you have that I still don't see a definite solution yet. There are many suggestions might fix it that you may try or Nvidia will.

Let us know when you find a fix. Thanks.

@ the OP

What driver version are you running?

Are they beta or WHQL official release?

Thanks Alan, your info seems very on par.I'm a noob how do I get rid of these features.I put in start up disc,to try and figure out what I had installed.Duh...could'nt figure it out.

Thanks,Chris

My Computer

You should have an "ASUS" folder in your start menu and program files folder that lists the ASUS utilities installed. BUT the utilities put so many hooks in the OS that I did a complete new install of Vista and software. I used the ASUS disk for chipset, Raid, LAN, and audio drivers but did not load any of their utilities.

Alan,
I did check there and didn't find an Asus file. The guy who helped told me he only loaded the the very least possible? When I start up I do get that express gate screen, and in bios I do see AI tweaker.Does that mean more stuff was installed than I really needed? The only thing I saw I could uninstall were two Marvell programs.I'm getting to a point were I wonder if the card is bad.I'll have to put in an old 7 series card and see if I still have problems.Thank you for the info,

Chris

You know I tried this latest driver,it didn't seem to help.I still crashed.I'm starting to wonder if I got a bumm gtx280.I'm going to have to pull out my card out of the old rig and see if I'm still locking up.
