Graphic Problem

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right section to post this but i have a little problem. I recently bought a new motherboard and graphics card. Motherboard Asus M2n-vm dvi, GC Nvidia 8800 GT. I installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit and all new drivers and everything seemed to be running smoothly. So i installed my new copy of COD5 World at War and loaded it up. About 10 seconds into the game i started to lag really badly, then it stopped. Then 10 seconds later i lagged badly again. This carried on and on until i exited the game. I also tried other games with the same effect.

To try to fix it i messed around in the Nvidia control panel with random settings to see if it would make a difference but it didnt. After about 3-4 hours of changing settings, my games started to run perfectly. I thought i had fixed the problem until i restarted my pc, after i restarted it started its rubbish again. I really dont want to spend so much time messing around with random settings every time i turn on my pc so if anyone could give me a possible solution that would be great:)

I'm not sure but maybe it could be a conflict with the onboard graphics? If possible i want to try avoid a bios upgrade since i heard this can mess up your pc if you make a mistake.

Thanks in advance :D

Well, if you think that it may be a problem or conflict with your onboard graphic chip, you may disable it. But normally, when you plug in a video card the BIOS automatically disables the onboard graphics. And there are also some risks with disabling the onbard graphic chip in the BIOS because you may not be able to reactivate it without clearing the CMOS. You can also deactive the onboard chip via the device manager. But I don't think that's your problem?

Do you use up-to-date drivers? Did you try older drivers? Maybe overheating is a problem due to defective fans? Just guesses...

Best regards,
Noël

Yes i use fully up to date drivers for everthing, i've rechecked that :(

Cant be an overheating issue as i have more than adequate cooling so i dont think thats the problem.

i wonder if my GC and PSU are compatible with Vista 64?

i wonder if my GC and PSU are compatible with Vista 64?

Vista (or any OS for that matter) doesn't care what PSU is there, and the video card is and does work with Vista (don't forget, the 8800 series were the first DirectX 10 cards). Back to the PSU, is it strong enough for the 8800 GT?

Vista Ultimate Graphics WEI died

Folks:

Desperately need help.

ACER E380, Vista Ultimate/GeForce 6100/32 bit/4gb ram

Everything was working fine with great Aero effect until yesterday when the suddenly (am not sure exactly when) I noticed that the Aero glass effect had vanished.

Tried the following:
1. Could not restore through the Personalize/Window Color Appearances route.
2. Checked the WEI and found that Graphics had dropped to 2.3 and Gaming dropped to 2.3, at which level I have understand that Aero will not work. I have no idea what the WEI was before.
3. System restore to earlier dates did not help.
4. Uninstalling the video hardware (through Device Manager) and reinstalling did not help.

Can anyone please advise why my WEI has dropped suddenly and how to fix the problem. Have spent over 4 hours on various forums trying to figure out what happened but am no closer to fixing the problem. Desperate to get my Aero back. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone feels this question is better posted elsewhere, kindly advise me where to post.

Thx in advance.

tabs.
