nTune over clock

Hi guys, I have been overclocking my graphics card with RivaTuner, I decided to try nTune, I then realized I needed to adjust my GPU fan speed, but when I open nTune under the "Performance" tab there isn't any category which let's me adjust my mobo settings...

I'm not sure if it is my specific video card (8400GS) or mother board (Dell RY206). But it is running VERY hot, last time I checked close to 140°F. So any help would be appreciated.

Re: nTune over clock

the nTune application is only available on supported chipsets, like Nforce chipsets.
have a look here at the system tools guide at the bottom and supported products section. NVIDIA System Tools with ESA Support

Okay, and I tried SpeedFan and the meters won't show up, so I can't control fans, is that because I can't control my mobo?

Re: nTune over clock

A few things,

1. Speedfan very rarely works with pre-built computers (Dell, HP, etc), usually due to the castrated bioses that they have.

2. Regarding ntune, did you click on the "Accept end user agreement"? Been a long time since I played around with ntune (1 because I don't have a Nvidia card ATM and 2 because it used to be (and probably is) a piece of junk), but pretty sure you have to click on and agree to it before you can use ntune.

3. Overclocking your video card. It is a 8400GS and overclocking it is not going to gain enough advantage to make it worth the effort.

4. Is your Dell the 531 or the 531s? If it is the 531s, it will be rather cramped inside the slim case, and there may not be enough airflow.

5. 140°F isn't as bad as you think it is, works out to ~60°C; which is well within a safe margin for the card. Does the card have a fan on it or is it fanless?

I have 531s, it has a fan. It actually is worth the effort, I played Crysis at 450MHz 8-12FPS on LOW and now at 570MHz I get 40+FPS low and I can play up to VERY HIGH settings. And I did accept the EULA Is it my mobo that won't allow overclocking? and is there a custom bios I can install to let me over clock?

Small step in the right direction. Might be a good idea to ditch the idea of ntune and stick with Rivatuner. That and if that 60°C is with the card at idle it could be getting close with that overclock to overheating, might want to see if RT will let you increase the fan speed.

Yes it is the motherboard and the bios that won't allow it. I won't say that there isn't a modded bios out there somewhere, and if there is there is a good possibility that your Dell won't be a Dell anymore (if it didn't flat out brick the motherboard), at least as far as Vista is concerned (and Dell for that matter, try getting warranty service).
